Really fun read
Revisado: 06-05-16
I really like this book. It has likable characters and an interesting storyline. An intelligent thriller. My only complaint is that the plot is slightly implausible, based on two completely disparate, bizarre coincidences. I'm OK with suspension of disbelief in a thriller, that's pretty much what you have to do, but in this case it was more than in the other book I read by the same author, Flash. Between those two excellent thrillers, Flash was more plausible, and therefore held my interest more.
On totally different note, The authors grasp of science is pretty good, much better than most nonscientist or nonphysician thriller-writers. I wonder if he is a physician or nurse or scientist of some sort. If not, then he certainly does a good job of making things sound scientifically within reason in both of these books. He doesn't use jargon or bring in unnecessary medical gore, but explains technical parts of the books in easy-to-understand way.

Historia
In a wealthy Minneapolis neighborhood, two elderly women are bludgeoned to death. They are apparent victims of a random robbery, though nothing of value appears to have been stolen. But when Lucas Davenport looks deeper, he fears that the victims weren’t so random, and the items stolen were far from invaluable. As a pattern emerges it leads Lucas to...certainly not where he expected. Which is too bad, because the killers are expecting him. And that’s only the first surprise.

So amazingly predictable
Revisado: 07-21-07
Apparently, if you like the Lucas Davenport series, you would love this; and I can see why, it certainly wasn't boring and it was fun to hear. But for the love of God, could there please be some sort of surprise to this?? It was more like reading a book for a second time--a fun and brainless. I really don't see how anyone could have not foreseen the plot by scores of chapters. I don't even consider it a mystery because the narrator made us privy to the plot like we were his father confessor. Do you want a mindlessly entertaining story? Great. If you want to work out something for yourself, move on.
