Historia
Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus, and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell - the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small planet home. Now, the Superiority - the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life - has started a galaxy-wide war.

Better than expected
Revisado: 12-30-21
I didn’t have terribly high hopes for this one as I read the reviews prior to listening, but I’m glad I went for it! I loved it. Yes, I missed the characters we know and love from the previous books but I really enjoyed getting more backstory on the Nowhere and the Delvers. I particularly enjoyed M-Bot’s character development and the arcs for other characters as well. I feel like this book fleshed Spensa out a bit more.
I do wish we had gotten more on what was happening on Detritus but maybe that’s in the novellas that I have not yet read.
All in all, great continuation of the overall storyline.
And, as always, Suzy Jackson does a fantastic job as the reader.

Historia
In 1919 England, in the shadow of The Great War, many look to the spirit world for answers. But it will take an all-too-earthbound intrigue to draw in the discerning heroine of Anna Lee Huber's latest mystery. It's not that Verity Kent doesn't sympathize with those eager to make contact with lost loved ones. After all, she once believed herself a war widow. But now that she's discovered Sidney is very much alive, Verity is having enough trouble connecting with her estranged husband, never mind the dead. Still, at a friend's behest, Verity attends a seance.

Great story, not great reader
Revisado: 11-12-21
The story is fun and clever and the characters (at least the main) are nicely fleshed out. The reader however has one inflection pattern that she uses for every single sentence and it’s aggravating. Occasionally she seems to forget that she is performing and reads naturally, but it is short lived. She has a very pleasant voice, so her vocal pattern is unfortunate.

Historia
In this Hugo-winner from Connie Willis, when too many jumps back to 1940 leave 21st century Oxford history student Ned Henry exhausted, a relaxing trip to Victorian England seems the perfect solution. But complexities like recalcitrant rowboats, missing cats, and love at first sight make Ned's holiday anything but restful - to say nothing of the way hideous pieces of Victorian art can jeopardize the entire course of history.

Fantastic
Revisado: 10-12-21
What a lovely book, the reader is wonderful and portrays the characters beautifully. The story is convoluted and detailed and utterly delightful. It’s the first book I’ve encountered by this author and I’m happy to have made the acquaintance. She has a wonderful facility with words and excellent comic timing. Highly recommend.

Novelist and prizewinning historian Winston Groom's gripping history of the four-year battle for Ypres in Belgian Flanders, the pivotal engagement of World War I that would forever change the way the world fought - and thought about - war. This is Groom's account of what would become the most dreaded place on Earth.

Great read!
Revisado: 09-25-21
I’m currently on a WWI kick and this book really explains what happened at Ypres. It’s absolutely heartbreaking in parts, in other parts it gets pretty technical, which I enjoy. It’s easily accessible for the layman and the reader does a fine job with nice pacing. I definitely recommend for anyone who wants to learn more about the Ypres Salient/passchendaele

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Utterly delightful
Revisado: 05-12-21
I loved The Martian and I love this book as much. Andy Weir writes with such joy in his subject and with a lovely sense of optimism about humanity that is infectious. His meticulous attention to scientific detail provides a lot of geeky interest to go along with the “human” interest side of the story. And for all his attention to science, he has a pretty fine understanding of human psychology and relationships. It’s an unashamedly joyful book and one desperately needed in our current mess. Highly recommend.
The narrator, whom I hadn’t heard before is wonderful. I was a little disappointed, initially, that it wasn’t RC Bray, but Porter really nailed most of the accents and voices. His inflection captured Grace and Rocky beautifully. I found myself laughing and yes, crying at various points, thanks to his talent at bringing the written word to life.

Historia
Browsing an antiques shop in Wiltshire, Alison Bannister stumbles across a delicate old portrait - identified as the doomed Tudor queen Anne Boleyn. Except Alison knows better. The subject is Mary Seymour, the daughter of Katherine Parr, who was taken to Wolf Hall in 1557 and presumed dead after going missing as a child. And Alison knows this because she, too, lived at Wolf Hall and knew Mary...more than 400 years ago.

Revisado: 09-18-20
I had never heard of this author, but the book popped up In my recommendations and as part of the audible plus, so I looked into it. Time travel and Tudor history? Sounds perfect. This is a delightfully well written story with a familiar setting that I love. The history is well researched and the characters decently fleshed out. There are a few plot holes, but not big enough to annoy. All in all, a lovely escapist read. Would definitely recommend.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Good story, though a bit labored at times. The narrator, however, is awful. He does fine when reading an American, but his English, Welsh and Irish accents are grating.
