Another Great Installment
Revisado: 12-30-24
I only really have two complaints:
1. You need third-party roaring and growling because the VA sounds like a yawning cat
2. The stat reads are getting very long now. Luckily, many of them are at the end of the chapter, which is good. It would be even better if there was a verbal indicator that it was the end of the chapter, and that you can just skip to the next chapter In the likely event that you don't want to listen to five minutes of stat page

An Excellent Start
Revisado: 11-12-24
No glaring holes. No unbearable characters. Excellent narration. Most importantly, the book didn't end in the middle of a plot point. It's like a mix between "Dark Lord of the Farmstead" and Battlemage Farmer," but the MC isn't overpowered. Also, not farm related.

Revisado: 10-10-24
Another excellent edition to the story. I do, however, have one rather significant gripe in regards to the audio. I don’t know who, in heaven's name, thought it was a good idea to have semi-graphic words of violence accompanied by very graphic sounds of violence, but they are very much mistaken. The background audio during the fights was at best, absurd, and at worst, sickening. I generally prefer audiobooks to be free of additional sounds because it makes it harder to tell what is being said, but I haven't been so annoyed and distracted since I listened to the Lord of the Rings and somebody had the brilliant idea to sing all the songs and poems in the recording with the acumen of a dehydrated cat in the throws of child birth. That being said, the performance of the VA's themselves were, once again, excellent. Overall, aside from the terrible background sound, I enjoyed listening to the story, and look forward to the next installment.

They stand with the Elder Dragons and the Spirit Dryads as creatures of legend. Timeless. Immortal. They live solitary lives, drawing power from their own soul. They are the hermits of the sea, their power unmatched in the ocean. Yet, this power is not attained easily, for as Thera will learn, the life of a baby Mystic Turtle is full of trials and tribulations.

Very Good
Revisado: 03-31-24
I can't normally bring myself to put in verbal reviews, but there is only one other verbal review at this time, and I find it to be unfairly critical.
I found the plot to be very engaging, I like that a lot of the exposition is told from another point of view that makes more sense. This currently seems to be the only purpose of the secondary pov, but I imagine that will change. I like the soft stats, since numerical value stats quickly lose all meaning anyway. I would appreciate it if the magic system was more fleshed out in future books as well as when and why skills are received. It also seemed like the same statement was made in slightly different ways several times (perhaps an editing error). Over all, I enjoyed the story and look forward to future audio books.

A start to another great series
Revisado: 06-01-23
I understand why we are required to write something with the review, but I am still not a big fan of the requirements. I think it discourages people from leaving reviews. Nevertheless, I suppose if I can expect the author to write a whole book in any reasonable amount of time, then I can write a few lines in a text box. There are a few things I really like about this story. First, there is a lot of actual story in the first book. It does more than just world build and introduce a few characters, then end. Second, I think the premise is well executed. SPOILERish: This is another OP MC story, but the author establishes a conflict for the character that she can't just immediately fix and will drive the story forward. She doesn't know everything or have everything planned out. Third, the book ends well. The ending of a book, especially the end of a series, is really important to me. It can ruin the whole story or just annoy you with a cliffhanger. This book does not. The book resolves the immediate conflicts while offering information about how the story will progress without pulling us halfway into the next plot line. All in all, great ending. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to continuing this series as well as finishing "Salvos."
Last, this book includes fowl language such as many uses of the f-bomb, but isn't crude, and contains no sexually explicit content, which I appreciate. The narrator did a wonderful job as well.

But before he goes, one last attempt to pull him into politics has him leaving Rimaros with a strong final impression. With new places to visit and new people to meet, the remnants of recent events have scarred the land and left lingering dangers behind. The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Review after listening to the entire series
Revisado: 04-16-23
I am absolutely furious, which is the only reason I am writing this review. The ending of the story is positively awful. The story was great up to the last book, so I guess you could just get the first four books, then make up your own ending. The entire cast could die in a fire, and it would have been a better ending.

What an absolutely awful ending
Revisado: 04-16-23
I am incredibly disappointed with how this story was concluded. If I wanted to feel depressed for the rest of the day, I'd watch the news. I can't trust this author anymore. I may consider purchasing the next series when it is concluded, and if the reviews indicate that it isn't another train wreck. The previous books were great, but the entire story is ruined with this ending. The narrator did a great job again, so at least there is that.

Finally
Revisado: 02-15-23
I've been waiting forever for this to come out on audio. The new narrator isn't the best, but he is more than adequate, and I honestly couldn't care less anyway after the months it has taken. The story keeps things interesting with a shift in plot, but the author does a good job at explaining the new things without redefining and reteaching the whole system. Are the new narrator's female voices the best? No, but they're good enough that it doesn't pull you out of the story.
