A great new entry

I was familar with both authors, although just as a narrator for Johnathan McClain with his work from Noobtown series. His work here is even better if that's possible. Our MC is quickly thrown into the world he created or at least he thinks he created it, there's some debate on whether he did or if he was just the writer of their history. There's the expected pop culture references, an on-going internal dialogue with himself and of course lots of adventures. I can't wait to see where things go from here since it left on a minor cliffhanger.

History Lessons

After the first book, we now get a bit more backstory on how Ryan ended up where he is today. It's almost odd during the flashback sections where Ryan isn't a snarky, somewhat cynical MC and instead is a scared teenager trying to survive and find his friend. It really adds some depth to Ryan's character and makes me like him even more knowing a bit more of how he got to where he is now. I'm starting book 3 immediately.

This series provides a wonderful palate cleanser after all the world ending threats usually present. The MC is massively OP but has no interest in taking over or defying the heavens.

A great start

Well, I had a whole thing written and managed to lose it. Since I've already read through book 3, I won't go into too many details to avoid spoilers. I will say it was nice to see the love interests were primarily motivated by their upbringing to not disappoint their sect leaders versus just "oh, he's the hero". The MC has his own issues with going from being trapped in a hospital bed to suddenly having 3 wives, one of which isn't exactly mentally stable. Both the MC and wives are trying to learn how to adapt to a new situation and it allows the story to grow much more organically.

A Dual-POV Story

The primary focus of the 2nd book is a new character who takes on god-like powers in the game. While I wasn't as impressed with this one as the first, it was still enjoyable.

I consider this to be my palate cleanser book and have listened multiple times. There’s no major danger to the characters and it’s about living a simple life.

I've been meaning to listen to this for a while now and glad I finally did. I am concerned that I overly identify with Murderbot's discomfort about being around people though. It wasn't really what to expect other than a bit of snarky robot, but for all his complaints about humans, he does a good job of saving them.

The penultimate epic

Ashok’s journey nears an end. The end is coming for everyone. The Grand Inquisitor’s plans are moving ahead and I only dislike that the next book isn’t written yet. TGR does amazing narrations again.

Great progression

While again, still a bit crunchy on stats for my tastes, Nacho and the guild are growing stronger. The final showdown with Crave and his band of lunatics is on the menu along with a legendary item. Looking forward to seeing how things wrap up in the next book.

A new take on System Integration

This was an interesting take on the system integration idea. It's much more brutal than the standard "system" comes and everyone gets a tutorial. I will admit I was a bit thrown off by the prologue, but story quickly improves and our MC is able to warn his friends before everything starts. It's a little crunchier on stats than I prefer for audiobooks, but a few jump aheads and I was able to bypass the stat sections. Looking forward to the next one in the series to see how Nacho's former friends are handled.
