Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Fair and honest coverage of January 6
Revisado: 03-15-24
The author was a member of the Congressional Committee that investigated January 6. She provided a detailed and convincing account. In spite of the fact that the author is a real conservative Republican, in the tradition of President Reagan, I found her views surprisingly similar to mine. I was impressed with the author’s desire to engage in bipartisanship. To summarize the author’s take home message, if you value democracy, don’t vote for Trump.

Historia
As a twenty-three-year-old singer and the soon-to-be wife of youth pastor Joshua Harris, nothing in Shannon Harris's secular upbringing prepared her to enter the world of conservative Christianity. Soon Joshua's bestselling book I Kissed Dating Goodbye helped inspire a national purity movement, and Shannon's identity became "pastor's wife." The Woman They Wanted recounts Shannon's remarkable experience inside Big Church—where she was asked to live within a narrow definition of womanhood for almost two decades—and her journey out of that world and into a more authentic version of herself.

A woman’s transformation
Revisado: 11-01-23
I enjoyed hearing this book. At first, when the author described her association with the church and the loss of her selfhood, the writing seemed almost zombie like. I soon realized that this way of writing was a reflection of the author’s past experiences. Those experiences left her numb and perhaps in disbelief. As the author grew and healed in the story, the writing became more animated, spiritual and soulful. I could not only hear her transformation but feel it in her writing.

A more believable Jesus
Revisado: 04-03-23
This book presents a much more believable Jesus. The Aramaic Jesus is a prophet more than a god. His wisdom is that the self and soul are are always connected in Spirit. What is called sin by Christian churches is actually the forgetting of the connection and allowing the superficial self to run one’s life. So much of the hocus pocus of Christianity is revealed to be mistranslation. The book’s message is very important for our time, but also for all time.

Historia
Whether listeners are devout believers or distant seekers, The Idolatry of God shows that we must lay down our certainties and honestly admit our doubts to identify with Jesus. Rollins purposely upsets fundamentalist certainty in order to open listeners up to a more loving, active manifestation of Christ’s love. In contrast to the usual understanding of the "Good News" as a message offering satisfaction and certainty, Rollins argues for a radical and shattering alternative. He explores how the Good News actually involves embracing the idea that we can’t be whole, that life is difficult, and that we are in the dark.

Lessons about love
Revisado: 05-11-17
I left Catholism and Christianity many years ago. I probably will not return to Catholicism because of its hatred of ~55% of the world (women and homosexuals) but it is nice to see that there is real love in some corners of the institution.
