Historia
Relos Var's final plans to enslave the universe are on the cusp of fruition. He believes there's only one being in existence that might be able to stop him: the demon Xaltorath. As these two masterminds circle each other, neither is paying attention to the third player on the board, Kihrin. Unfortunately, keeping himself classified in the "pawn" category means Kihrin must pretend to be everything the prophecies threatened he'd become: the destroyer of all, the sun eater, a mindless, remorseless plague upon the land.

Worthy world with plenty of slowly tying stories
Revisado: 01-14-24
Great world. Great character building. Worth the listen through them all. Why not a 5?
It's a bias. I don't like how whiney Kihrin is in the first 3 books. Much of "House of Always" feels like too much teen drama. That outside, overall Great stuff. On balance, Sinera's character is fantastically written and with voice acting to match that level of excellence. So please do not judge based on my bias, the series has all those 5 stars for a good reason. Just sharing for me why its a 4. As if a 4 isn't flipping incredible. Looking forward to more Jenn Lyon.

Historia
Now that Relos Var’s plans have been revealed and demons are free to rampage across the empire, the fulfillment of the ancient prophecies - and the end of the world - is closer than ever. To buy time for humanity, Kihrin needs to convince the king of the Manol vané to perform an ancient ritual which will strip the entire race of their immortality, but it’s a ritual which certain vané will do anything to prevent. Including assassinating the messengers.

It's official: It is Joe, Jenn and George
Revisado: 07-29-23
Like any memorable meal, I grew hungry to eat, a bit of 'hangry' perhaps...altho truly just mild impatience. And like any memorable meal, it was absolutely worth the journey.
Jenn Lyons' stories are somehow not the same destination as Joe or George. I can't quite put a finger on it. Thats the brilliance, can't predict how this will end. A Mt Rushmore of the greatest epic fantasy writers would include her for sure. Just after Joe and honestly...yes, before George.

Another must listen slipped in between trilogies
Revisado: 09-12-22
This stand alone avoids the slower tempo of Heroes although not at the lightning pace of Served Cold. Great new characters + (non spoiler) large gaps are filled following the end of first law's first trilogy.

Historia
They say Black Dow's killed more men than winter and clawed his way to the throne of the North up a hill of skulls. The King of the Union, ever a jealous neighbor, is not about to stand smiling by while he claws his way any higher. The orders have been given, and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they've brought a lot of sharpened metal with them.

Worth the commitment btwn "Cold"& "Red"
Revisado: 08-20-22
It's true that after the feverish pace of Best Served...this one starts & stays too slow for too long. If you hang in there, it does make a good bridge between 2 epic stories.

Historia
The second novel in the wildly popular First Law Trilogy from New York Times best seller Joe Abercrombie. Superior Glokta has a problem. How do you defend a city surrounded by enemies and riddled with traitors, when your allies can by no means be trusted, and your predecessor vanished without a trace? It's enough to make a torturer want to run - if he could even walk without a stick. Northmen have spilled over the border of Angland and are spreading fire and death across the frozen country. Crown Prince Ladisla is poised to drive them back and win undying glory.

I wad exposed to Joe's books very very late. I stumbled upon A little hatred by accident. Age Of Madness was an instant classic trilogy. I'm thrilled to listen through First Law as a prequel. AND I love "Grim-ase" ;)

Some say that to change the world you must first burn it down. Now that belief will be tested in the crucible of revolution: The Breakers and Burners have seized the levers of power, the smoke of riots has replaced the smog of industry, and all must submit to the wisdom of crowds. With nothing left to lose, Citizen Brock is determined to become a new hero for the new age, while Citizeness Savine must turn her talents from profit to survival before she can claw her way to redemption.

Masterpiece finish painting an infinite weave
Revisado: 03-08-22
Story, narration, pace, characters all pitch perfect and addictively varied shades of grey. Years from now the world will finally find this series & term it their obsessive next Thrones or Rings. Corny comparison but the Mt. Bookmore will indeed feature the faces of George, JRR...and Joe.Here is to hoping that only HBO snags the series rights & sticks the title "A little hatred". PS pls do another volume soon Joe!

Historia
Ruth Wariner was the 39th of her father's 42 children. Growing up on a farm in rural Mexico, where authorities turned a blind eye to the practices of her community, Ruth lives in a ramshackle house without indoor plumbing or electricity. At church, preachers teach that God will punish the wicked by destroying the world and that women can ascend to heaven only by entering into polygamous marriages and giving birth to as many children as possible.

Historia
Amanda Lindhout reads her spectacularly dramatic memoir of a woman whose curiosity about the world led her from rural Canada to imperiled and dangerous countries on every continent, and then into 15 months of harrowing captivity in Somalia - a story of courage, resilience, and extraordinary grace. In August 2008, she traveled to Mogadishu, Somalia - "the most dangerous place on Earth." On her fourth day in the country, she and her photojournalist companion were abducted.
