The Madness of Crowds - Ca va bien aller
Revisado: 09-08-21
"All Will Be Well" doesn't mean it will be easy and doesn't mean the same thing to everyone which makes this book far from a cozy but set within a cozy framework in the village that heals people. I was interested in reading how mixed the reviews were and how uncomfortable this book made people. I see that as addressing the greatness of Louise Penny's writing. It is gentle but not escapist literature. And it reminds me why I admire this woman's writing so much. I suggest if you tried reading the print version and find it uncomfortable that you listen to the audible book narrated by Robert Bathurst. For me the narrator coaxed me along through uncomfortable realities to remind me of the strength and complexity of being human.
Louise Penny is an author whose works I don't always recommend reading in order as some people aren't attracted to the cozy humor of her early works. And it appears some of her readers are struggling with this pandemic novel that's too close to the current situation. But I encourage people to stick with this book as it will provoke thoughts and quite possibly a positive outlook.

Historia
When property developer Connor Clive Blaydon is found dead, Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks and his Yorkshire team dive into the investigation. As luck would have it, someone had installed a cache of spy-cams all around his luxurious home. The team hope that they’ll find answers - and the culprit - among the video recordings. Instead of discovering Connor's murderer, however, the grainy and blurred footage reveals another crime: a brutal rape

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

How does Penny do it?
Revisado: 09-08-19
Louise Penny's Inspector Ganache series is richer and more profound with each new volume. The characters and plot are always stunningly developed but each one contains more varied and more deeply explored insights into the problems and situations humans encounter. Penny's writing is often poetry so well- selected are her words. The narrator of this audible book ( my first experience with her writing as listening) is so powerful. I suggest reader's keep a box of tissues at hand for the most dramatic moments.
Feeling certain I knew the killer early only heightened my awe at the action and analysis.
This is a series worth reading in order as character study, too.
I hold Louise Penny with J. K. Rowling as my most respected modern authors examining human behavior and philosophical insights while presenting exciting story lines.

Mystery, History, Human Relationships
Revisado: 08-17-19
Engaging mystery plot with interesting characters tied to a historical context of a whimsically romantic structure defining an area of London that was a bit of inspiration to residents. It's read by a narrator whom I found engaging from the first. Plotting character-driven and realistic. I hated to have it end. I think this would appeal to a wide variety of listeners.

Narrator/Author mesmerized me
Revisado: 07-29-19
Narrator/Author drew me in to the story and the rich character pool. I found it realistic. I could congratulate myself when I predicted something later verified as the plot moved along. I did not find it a weakness but a skillful means of keeping me involved. I found the exposition of character explaining their thoughts and actions well-written and psychologically valid. It is very long but I found myself wanting to lock the world out to complete the book. The reader's voice was superb. Not a formula mystery story.

Revisado: 06-30-19
Titus Welliver perfect voice for Connelly's Bosch. Good writing, good voice actor make for compelling listening. The book and narration made me realize again the fascinating experience of having a good book read to one.
I enjoy the BOSCH Prime series, too, and listening to the book read so well lead to a discussion about relative strengths and characteristics of novels and stories.
