What made the experience of listening to The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul the most enjoyable?

Adams' characteristic dry wit has always resounded with me

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dirk Gently, of course

Have you listened to any of Douglas Adams’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Goodbye and Thanks for all the Fish. Love them all!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh, laugh and laugh

Any additional comments?

I'm an Adams fan and somehow I missed this one. His absurdist sense of humor has always made me laugh. His death was a real blow to the literary world..

If you could sum up Fat Chance in three words, what would they be?

Makes you laugh

What did you like best about this story?

The different viewpoints between the husband and wife, told in first person

What does Heather Wilds and Napoleon Ryan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The difference in the characters they voiced

If you could take any character from Fat Chance out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Wouldn't take them to dinner!

Any additional comments?

When you just want to sit back choose light reading and have a chuckle, this is the book,

What made the experience of listening to Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! the most enjoyable?

Written in the first person by one of the great minds of the century, Feynman's book mixes the tragedies in his life with the humor and good nature he had while working on the Manhattan Project. His inside knowledge of that time and place rocked me out of any impression that it was a serious, driven atmosphere with no comic relief.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Richard Feynman, of course

What about Raymond Todd’s performance did you like?

Very well read

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Everything you thought you knew about the Manhattan project is wrong

Any additional comments?

I read this book a long time ago, while we were still renting cassettes. I've wished I could own it to be able to reread it again and again.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, an absorbing, light read, original

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Patron Saint of Ugly?

Don't want to give it away, but the scene where Angelo & Nicky get in the car

Which scene was your favorite?

Hard to say, each is so different. Maybe when Nona takes the tape recorder.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both.

Any additional comments?

The story and the narrator kept me engrossed in the book. Except for the very beginning, when you don't know who is who yet and the female reader is supposed to be a man, she did an excellent job. Light but not too light. Heavy, but not too heavy. Read it, and you will have something to think about. It would make a good book club selection.

What made the experience of listening to Just One Damned Thing After Another the most enjoyable?

Interesting premise, time travel for historians. It's almost believable-- I'd surely like to join in.

What did you like best about this story?

Excellent character development, interesting story line

What does Zara Ramm bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She was spot on in narration of the major character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not so much, it's very long and I'd rather savor it in small doses

Any additional comments?

Fun adventure, good read.

What disappointed you about What's So Funny??

I love Tim Conway, thought the book would be funnier

Would you ever listen to anything by the authors again?

No

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment

Any additional comments?

I read the autobiographies of Carol Burnett & Penny Marshall and basically felt the same way-- dreary narrative, lots of name dropping. I think I'm through with this genre, not for me. On the other hand Janis Ian's autobiography was very interesting, lots of revealing the person behind the name (or voice). Here, not so much.

What made the experience of listening to The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared the most enjoyable?

This book grew on me as more features of the protagonist's life are revealed. At first I thought it was ho-hum, but kept listening and became more and more fascinated.

The author's droll wit, coupled with the reader's excellent rendition, made this an engrossing and fascinating read.

What did you like best about this story?

The plot itself is like nothing I've ever read before. A twist and turn in every chapter.

Which scene was your favorite?

Don't want to spoil-- let's just say Sonia and the assassin

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If only I could. It's very long, which I see as a plus in this case.

Any additional comments?

I did not realize that this book was originally published in Swedish and that the story takes place mainly in Sweden. This would have ordinarily put me off because of the names, but that is not the case here. The main character is Alan Carlson (or whatever the Swedish spelling is), and the other names are easy to remember.

What made the experience of listening to Brain on Fire the most enjoyable?

This is a gripping true life story of a young woman who descended into madness and came out of it to tell the story. It is rare to find a first hand account of this sort. Well worth reading.

What about Heather Henderson’s performance did you like?

Excellent narration, felt like she was living it and telling you what happened

What made the experience of listening to 11-22-63 the most enjoyable?

The suspense, the sense of familiarity with the characters

What other book might you compare 11-22-63 to and why?

The Butterfly Effect because changing one thing in the past has unknowable repercussions in the present

Which scene was your favorite?

Running to stop Lee Harvey Oswald on the day of the shooting

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Beware of what you wish for

Any additional comments?

I am NOT a Stephen King fan, but I was spellbound throughout this book. Rarely do you come across a book that is both character driven and plot driven to the same extent. King took his time fleshing out all the characters, even the minor ones.

Wait for Part 2

I love Connie Willis, so I knew that I was going to read her book. I should have read the other reviews first, so I would be prepared for the fact that the book ends abruptly. Apparently part 2 comes out in November, and I would have liked to read it all the way through. I agree that the book is less about time travel than about how Brits made it through WWII, but I was fascinated with the storyline. The stories of various characters interweave with each other, so be prepared for abrupt shifts. I actually found this juxtaposition interesting. I would have given it 5 stars, but for the abrupt "non ending".
