Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Epic Story, Amazing Narrator
Revisado: 09-23-17
I’ve read many of King’s books, and have always enjoyed his writing.
For some reason I never read “IT”. The idea of a murderous clown just didn’t appeal to me and frankly I couldn’t imagine how King could squeeze 900 pages out of that plot point.
Boy was I wrong. It’s an epic story, stretching over decades, and is so much more than the “scary clown.” In fact, although it has a strong horror element, it seems to have more in common with “The Body” than “‘Salem’s Lot”. I really enjoyed it.
Let me also say that the narrator did an amazing job. Truly one of the best readings I’ve heard and I have several hundred Audio books. He performs character voices and “acts” out many scenes very convincingly. Halfway through I had to stop and look at the details to make sure I hadn’t bought a “theatrical version” - his characterizations were that good.
Truly enjoyable. It’s 44 hours long and I was sad when it (no pun intended) was over.
Highly recommended.

The American legal system changed dramatically when the OJ Simpson trial became a television-ratings bonanza. Now it's all crime, all the time, from tabloid news to police procedurals. Americans now know more about the criminal justice system than ever before. Or do they?

Interesting insights into the criminal justice system
Revisado: 09-09-17
The Good:
The authors bring all of their incredible experiences to bear on this book and share some fantastic stories. Their insights into the criminal justice system really help to pull back the curtain and shed some light on the secretive world of judges, prosecutors, lawyers and cops.
The chapter on police officers and the chapter on prosecutors stand out as two of the best.
For example - we learn that some cops get very good at "testi-lying" in court and that "Police Memory Syndrome" (PMS) is a thing. Overall, a fun read.
The Bad:
The book starts out a bit slow, and occasionally wanders. The producers also chose to add 30sec - 1min of various sultry jazz music numbers - usually played on a moaning tenor sax - between each chapter. I found the musical interludes to be annoying. They were distracting and served no real purpose. But hey, maybe some will like it. There are also several sections that were repeated verbatim in different chapters. It could have used some editing.
The Ugly:
The narration on this book is awful. I'm not sure why they chose Mike Dawson to read a book about the legal system, but his voice didn't fit the subject at all. He also makes quite a few errors in pronunciation, and the words he doesn't say correctly are important - and would be familiar to anyone with even a passing knowledge of current events. But beyond that - the narrator sounds like an 80s Classic Rock morning DJ. In fact - listening to this book is like listening to a nine-hour long drag racing commercial. (IT'LL BLOW YOUR DOORS OFF!!!!!!). I did get used to it eventually, but it took two or three chapters. I think the subject matter would have been better served with a more traditional narrator.
Overall: I'm glad I bought it, and I enjoyed it. You will too.

Historia
It’s amateur hour at the White House. So says New York Times best-selling author Edward Klein in his political exposé The Amateur. Tapping into the public’s growing sentiment that President Obama is in over his head, The Amateur argues that Obama’s toxic combination of incompetence and arrogance has run our nation and his presidency off the rails.

Any additional comments?
I have read mixed reviews of the author's other works so I listened with a skeptical ear. However I was immediately drawn into the story and enjoyed it very much. It promises to tell us about a man we know little about other than his carefully manicured public image. People on the right will have their suspicions confirmed. People on the left will dismiss it out of hand. I thought it was a good read, if a little unbelievable. That being said, if just 10% of this book is true, we are in big trouble. Recommended for political junkies.

Historia
Newly elected, Jack Ryan has found that being President is not easy: domestic pitfalls await him at every turn; there's a revolution in Liberia; the Asian economy is going down the tubes; and now, in Moscow, someone may have tried to assassinate the chairman of the SVR - the former KGB - with a rocket-propelled grenade. Were the potential assassins political enemies, the Russian Mafia, or disaffected former KGB? Or is something far more dangerous at work here?

Good story - Narrator tries hard to kill it...

Any additional comments?
This is a very good Clancy story. Lots of intriguing inside baseball detail about the inner workings of the CIA. However, the narration made it almost unlistenable. It sounds like every sentence in the book - no, every phrase - was recorded seperately and spliced together. It is so disjointed and emotionless that it took me the entire first part to get used to it. It is comically bad, especially when compared to the Clancy stuff done by Lou Diamond Phillps. I don't regret buying it because it is a good story, but it is painful to listen to...Buyer beware...
