Painful to listen
Revisado: 03-19-25
The reader of this book is probably the worst I have encountered. She accents syllables incorrectly, making her whiny voice sound as though she is a child “sounding out” words. The cadence is completely off - I found it impossible to even invest in the story because the reading was so awful.

Historia
Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Barbara isn’t just any thirteen-year-old: she’s the daughter of the family that owns the summer camp and employs most of the region’s residents. And this isn’t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara’s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago, never to be found.

Read this one - not for listening
Revisado: 03-11-25
Excellent novel, but very hard to follow in audio format. There are too many short chapters to follow easily, especially if one is prone to falling asleep.

Voice actor is grating; not a story for audio consumption
Revisado: 08-30-23
Very complicated plot that requires full attention and, preferably, annotations. Voice actor is grating. I do not recommend this one.
