A wise and in depth look at this subject. I read this after reading the Collin Hansen biography of Tim Keller because it was mentioned there and I’ve been wanting to read more on this for some time. Great narrator.

Great Fantasy Fun
Revisado: 12-19-24
My 13 year old and I really enjoyed this book. Great slow build, and lots of fun on the way. I like how the story slowly unfolds instead of the author stopping the story to relay tons of stuff in an info dump. We’re excited to read the next one! I’m excited to learn more about the wizard and the history of the story world, and to spend more time with the characters.

Every great movement of God is preceded by a season of humility and repentance. It is a time of tearing down walls, of getting honest with God and others about your true spiritual condition. It may be hard. It may hurt. But in the end, God will use your brokenness to restore your 'first love' for Jesus, rekindle your spiritual fire, reconcile your relationships, and repair your life. A richer, deeper, more God-filled life is waiting for you.

Historia
Twelve-year-old Sophie has never quite fit into her life. She’s skipped multiple grades and doesn’t really connect with the older kids at school, but she’s not comfortable with her family, either. The reason? Sophie’s a Telepath, someone who can read minds. No one knows her secret - at least, that’s what she thinks.... But the day Sophie meets Fitz, a mysterious (and adorable) boy, she learns she’s not alone. He’s a Telepath too, and it turns out the reason she has never felt at home is that, well...she isn’t. Fitz opens Sophie’s eyes to a shocking truth....

Very Fun Book
Revisado: 04-12-24
I really enjoyed this book. I read it because all my kids have been devouring the series. There were a few reasons I liked this book and a few reasons I didn't give it 5 stars. I thought the story world was awesome. I've always loved the idea of characters who are (slight spoiler) ancient. I also loved the whole idea behind the lost cities and I love the urban fantasy trope of our normal world but there are other worlds we normal people just don't know about. Super cool. That said, there were a few things that heavily reminded me of Harry Potter but I'd say in comparison this book has way less depth when it comes both to the individual characters and the story world. They're still great but I did get bored a few times while the character was (slight spoiler) getting through school. OK - all that to say I'm a 38 year old and not the target audience for this book so I think most readers will love those chapters because they're very relatable to you if you're still in school. I have also heard that as you keep reading the book in this series get even better so I have great hopes as I continue on to the next one. It's also really fun talking about books with my kids and this series is one they are all excited about so I'm thankful to share that with them.

Amazing Writing, Story, & Narration
Revisado: 04-04-24
The writing was beautiful. Magnificent poetry with elegant descriptions in some places, and rough prose quickly getting the story across in others. My emotions rose and fell with the fortunes of Buck, that majestic breed of a beast of a dog who rose from civility to mastery over all others. This was an epic little tale that I could see myself reading again just to relive this amazing life of a dog once live in the pages penned by Jack London. A master of his craft, just as his character Buck became a master of the wild.

Inspiring & Captured it Well
Revisado: 03-15-24
This was a great running book. I felt like I was there with the team for their 98’ season. Through all the physical and emotional ups and downs, and there were some big ones. The author is an excellent writer both at capturing being there with the team but also in the beautiful prose he writes. I also only listened to this audiobook while running which added a little something more to the experience. Great book. Inspiring and entertaining. The narrator worked well for this book.

At the verge of turning 40, Peter Sagal - brainiac Harvard grad, short, bald Jew with a disposition toward heft, and a sedentary star of public radio - started running seriously. And much to his own surprise, he kept going, faster and further, running 14 marathons and logging tens of thousands of miles on roads, sidewalks, paths, and trails all over the US and the world, including the 2013 Boston Marathon, where he crossed the finish line moments before the bombings.

Fun Running Book
Revisado: 04-15-23
Great book. Super well written and narrated! Made me laugh a ton! Witty and funny. He tells a story well and writes with clarity and beauty. Why 4/5 stars overall? Because the author called me a name for believing we were designed by a creator. Real mature buddy. So yeah, that put me off a bit. I almost stopped listening.

Magical
Revisado: 01-05-23
This was a real treat. Lowell is one of my favorite authors. I’ve never read stories quite like his anywhere else. They have an easy way about them and yet keep you turning the pages and wanting more. Reading them is a comfort. I love living in his worlds. It was really fun to read something modern with a splash of fantasy rather than the beloved SciFi and Fantasy of his I’ve read. This story made me laugh and shout while listening to it on runs, in planes, and at home. The characters became friends and I really grew to love them, other than the antagonist of course—but even she was always a welcome visitor to the story and made it more fun and humorous. I love the subtle yet incredibly rewarding character arc of the main character Mulligan. I don’t doubt I will listen to this story again someday. Also, the narrator was incredible and perfect for this book and the characters.
