Historia
Anthony Powell's universally acclaimed epic encompasses a four-volume panorama of twentieth century London. Hailed by Time as "brilliant literary comedy as well as a brilliant sketch of the times," A Dance to the Music of Time opens just after World War I. Amid the fever of the 1920s and the first chill of the 1930s, Nick Jenkins and his friends confront sex, society, business, and art.

Desolate when it ended
Revisado: 02-11-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is the fourth and final part, and the whole series is hugely enjoyable. I found I was making excuses to go for a walk to the shops to get back to this wonderfully interwoven tale. When it finished I felt bereft. The story is beautifully written and in many places very funny indeed, and the narrator is superb.
Who was the most memorable character of A Dance to the Music of Time: Fourth Movement and why?
Everyone knows a Widmerpool. His development from overweight figure-of-fun schoolboy through senior army officer to Labour politician is masterly. I particularly liked the way that at each stage elements of the unpopular schoolboy reasserted themselves. The boy really is father to the man.
Any additional comments?
If you find it as bit hard going at the beginning, stick with it. You will soon be engrossed in an entire world.

Historia
Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II, which begins with The Winds of War and continues here in War and Remembrance, stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

Great story, terrible narrator
Revisado: 01-29-12
Where does War and Remembrance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This would be very high in my all time favourites were it not for the dreadful narrator. Not only was his delivery monotonous, but his English accents were risible. At first I thought they were intended to be funny, but then slowly I realised that was his idea of English voices. Pamela in particular is really terrible.
What did you like best about this story?
Wouk has a gift for weaving disparate stories into a compelling whole.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kevin Pariseau?
Anyone!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The descriptions of the fighting in Russia
Any additional comments?
Best to listen to Winds of War and follow on directly with this.

Rodney Williams's disappearance seems typical to Chief Inspector Wexford - a simple case of a man running off with a woman other than his wife. But when another woman reports that her husband is missing, the case turns unpleasantly complex.

Brilliantly written and very entertaining

All the Inspector Wexford novels are a joy to read, and Michael Bryant is the perfect reader. All the characters are clearly and realistically differentiated, and every twist and turn in the plot held me enthralled.

A really terrific experience
Revisado: 03-04-08
A fast-paced, entertaining narrative, brilliantly read. I listen while walking, and I found I was walking several more miles a day because I was enjoying the story so much. I felt very disappointed when I realised my "fix" was over.

Historia
To a jockey, losing his license is the equivalent of being struck off, or disbarred, or cashiered. When steeplechase rider Kelly Hughes lost his license his first feelings were of bewilderment and disbelief, for he was not guilty of the charges. Nor, to the best of his knowledge, was the trainer he had ridden for, who lost his livelihood as well. When his first stunned state of shock subsided, Kelly began to wonder why he had been framed, who had done it, and how it had been achieved.

A great yarn
Revisado: 11-16-05
Like all Dick Francis novels, this is a terrific yarn. The story is fast-paced and difficult to put down. The hero is attractive and believable and although there is considerable violence it is story-book stuff and not evil. No swearing or gratuitous sex.

Historia
Like Charles Dickens' other early novels, The Old Curiosity Shop was a huge success, even eclipsing The Pickwick Papers. The melodramatic saga of the flight of Little Nell and her grandfather captured the public's attention, so much so that people would wait in long lines for the release of the next installment of the saga. For the character of Little Nell, the beautiful child thrown into a shadowy, terrifying world, Dickens drew on a tragedy in his own life.

A book ruined by its delivery
Revisado: 11-02-05
Although there are some dreadful purple passages, this is a great story, but you'd be hard put to realise it through the medium of this really terrible reader. I abandoned hope part way through, as I realised that far from enjoying it I was starting to feel road rage coming on. At least I know to avoid anything read by this man again.
I hope Audible.com will find another unabridged version with a fine reader
