xerox parc was the fertile crescent of modern computing gadgetry. everything we use today seems to have roots going back to that time and that place. this is an enthralling book for students of technology. well worth a look!

i am extremely cynical about self-help books, (hey, i'm british. we just don't go in for that sort of thing!) but one of the things i like about audible is being able to try things i wouldn't normally want to read.
i was very pleasantly surprised by this. ok, some of it was a bit cringemaking and rubbed my sensibilities up the wrong way, but it was really quite challenging and made me feel a whole lot more positive about my life for almost a whole day!

i don't know why i bought this. i didn't expect to like it at all, but what d'you know? it was excellent! very, very funny, slightly unnerving in places and his passion for food makes you feel sort of inspired to...oh - live life for pleasure... well, i'm not expressing myself well, but take it from me, it's well worth a listen!

other reviewers seem unimpressed but i thought it was a fine book, covering the whole sweep of the history of the area. it seemed well balanced (at least, moreso than most histories of the area - face it, everyone who writes about the middle east has their axe to grind, but this bloke seemed at least to be trying!) and very informative. well worth the effort!

a book that states its case clearly and sets out to map the milestones of an entire culture. i have to admit, i found it heavy going at 22 hours but if you're less shallow than me and if you want to know why certain authors have been held as worthy of praise, check this one out.

ok, not a life changer, but there are some real interesting stories here. i listened to it while i was studying a course that covered the history of computing, silicon valley, etc., so this was a real good alternative view of what goes on behind the scenes. well worth a look if you're interested in the topic.

sounds good, doesn't it? yet it doesn't seem to hit the spot. there was little detail about how these things worked and it seemed inconceivable that she could get so excited about even the most prosaic, humdrum aspect of wireless technology. good as an overview - maybe as a first port of call that will put you on the right track when deciding what avenue to explore but don't expect to get a full picture.
