Historia
Meddy Chan has been to countless weddings, but she never imagined how her own would turn out. Now the day has arrived, and she can't wait to marry her college sweetheart, Nathan. They find the perfect wedding vendors: a Chinese Indonesian family-run company just like theirs. Meddy is hesitant at first, but she hits it off right away with the wedding photographer, Staphanie, who reminds Meddy of herself, down to the unfortunately misspelled name. But Meddy realizes that is where their similarities end, however, when she overhears Staphanie talking about taking out a target.

What a mess
Revisado: 03-24-23
This book was pointless. All the shenanigans they got up to in the book were unnecessary. It feels like this book was rushed, lacked structure and thought.

Historia
In Her Body and Other Parties, Carmen Maria Machado blithely demolishes the arbitrary borders between psychological realism and science fiction, comedy and horror, fantasy and fabulism. While her work has earned her comparisons to Karen Russell and Kelly Link, she has a voice that is all her own. In this electric and provocative debut, Machado bends genre to shape startling narratives that map the realities of women's lives and the violence visited upon their bodies.

Predictable

The killer was predictable. No crazy twist until the end, but by that time it’s too late to be anything more than an ok mystery

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, finished it on my commute to work
Any additional comments?
I wish the story was longer. I didn't like the cliffhanger.

Historia
Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all - popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend. Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she is or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, Sam realizes that it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear that she and Cassie were more like best enemies.

Any additional comments?
This was my first J.L. Armentrout book, and I have to say that I am hooked. I really liked this book.
Sammy comes back home after having gone missing for 4 days. Sammy has no memories of what happened to her or whether her best frenemy is dead. She slowly starts to remember the truth about her not so perfect life, and the truth may be too much for Sammy to bear.
What I liked: I thought the book was well written. I really liked the main character and that does not happen too often for me, maybe only twice before (Emily from Since you've been gone and Scout from to kill a mockingbird). All the supporting characters were great. I especially liked Carson, he was so dreamy lol. I also like her twin brother Scott and his gf Julie, they were both very sweet to Sammy considering how mean she was to everyone. I liked that the accident gave Sammy a second chance at life (literally and figuratively), she regained some of that innocence she had lost the day she met Cassie. I loved the romance in the book. It wasn't cheesy or out of the blue. I actually felt how much Carson loved Sammy <3
What I didn't like: Sammy's parents. They were both strange. Not very affectionate with each other or their kids. They cared more about what society thought of them than their own daughter. Im glad Sammy's mother had a change of heart at the end of the book, she stopped drinking, and let go of some of that social hierarchy bs that hindered her soul.

Christopher was Auggie's best friend from the time they were babies until his family moved away; he was there through all of Auggie's surgeries and heartbreaks, through bad times and good--like Star Wars marathons and dreams of traveling to Pluto together. Alternating between childhood flashbacks and the present day, an especially bad day for Christopher, Pluto is the story of two boys grown apart learning that good friendships are worth a little extra effort.

Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life - and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow Series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere. Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go.

The endings are always rushed
Revisado: 12-10-14
Any additional comments?
I'm giving it a 4.5. The ending seemed rushed. I've noticed that all of Rainbow Rowell's books end abruptly, leaving you wanting another chapter or maybe even another book. I wish this book would have ended differently. However her writing style is beautiful and I fall in love with all her characters.

Slow story development
Revisado: 12-10-14
Who was your favorite character and why?
ROBIN!
Have you listened to any of Robert Glenister’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, the silkworm. It was the same, since it was the same character. Sometimes the accent was hard for me to follow
Any additional comments?
While I loved going along with Strike as he uncovered clues to solve Lula Landry's death, some of the books pacing was too slow for my liking. Strike interviewed all of Lula's circle of friends and I don't know if it was just me missing something but I could never get my head around some of the interviews. To be honest they seemed pointless; we never got enough information from each interview to make an educated guess on who the killer was. It wasn't until the end, when Strike explained it that we finally got the whole story. The book was missing something. I love J.K. Rowling and I wanted to love this book so much. However, as I was reading it I could not help but compare it to the pretty little liars series when I was hoping/wanting/expecting a masterpiece like Sherlock Holmes. I gave the book a 4, because I feel like the series has potential. I'm currently reading the silkworm. So far the book is taking a similar turn. I hope it's not a let down :(
