Took a bit to get into but turned out to be quite good. Like another listener, I wasn’t as enchanted with this book as with Zeyn’s first book. But this story is its own and I came to appreciate it as such.

Janet tells her story with so much open, unapologetic vulnerability. A great listen, informative and inspiring. Thank you for sharing so freely of yourself.

Will takes full advantage of the audio format to enhance the experience of this book far beyond what one would get from reading the book. Highly recommend.

As a longtime fan of Elliot, my curiosity drove me to scoop up this title. The performance and writing by Elliot reflect a clear appreciation for literature and the poetic flair. His story is compelling and honest, at many times heartbreaking and fury inducing. I recommend to any fans of memoir, nerdy lit, queer/trans lit, and the curious about how different people exist in our world. While Elliot has certainly experienced plenty to fill a book and did so from a deeply contemplative perspective, the story feels like it ends too abruptly. I think this relates to an issue I take with the recent trend to pump out “memoirs” from people so young that their stories are closer to their beginnings than their endings. Still, my nitpicking about the genre shift aside, this book was well executed and a great listen.

The book beautifully weaves together the the stories of two girls enduring and overcoming through bravery and cunning in difficult circumstances on their journeys to becoming resilient young women. The performance is simultaneously stirring and soothing. This is one I will return to time and again.

Bonnie Greer is fantastic as are all of her interviewees. The information presented in this mini series is fascinating and of the utmost importance. These histories need to be told and studied in pre-k to college. They need to be explored in all types of media and art. Grateful to have learned so much.

I’ve read / listened to other scholarly books on the gut and still learned soo much from this one. The author also has a nice I don’t take myself too seriously tone that was well delivered by the narrator. Great listen, highly recommend!!!

Should be called how human smelling differs from smelling like a dog

At least half this book is about human smelling and NOT about being a dog. I just wanted so much more about the full experience of being a dog and what we know scientifically about what this means. I get the focus on smelling, as a dog. I would have appreciated all the content exploring human smelling to have instead been about other aspects of being a dog. Instead of following the author on a people centered animal tracking tour, how about exploring what barking means and why some dogs are more prone to it than others. How about more in the leading science of what differs dog behavior from their wild counter parts.
