Historia
For five centuries, a witch's curse has bound the trolls to their city beneath the ruins of Forsaken Mountain. Time enough for their dark and nefarious magic to fade from human memory and into myth. But a prophesy has been spoken of a union with the power to set the trolls free, and when Ccile de Troyes is kidnapped and taken beneath the mountain, she learns there is far more to the myth of the trolls than she could have imagined.

Maiden stupidity
Revisado: 12-09-24
I find that the older I get, the less I’m able to tolerate the stupid, gullible, rose colored glasses of maidens who think with their hearts but somehow come out ok. The female protagonist says sorry over and over. I almost put down the book.

Good description of images, experiences and feelings
Revisado: 09-21-24
Using the Waite cards, the author takes you through the general ideas of the major arcana and how they relate to each other. Her explanation of the minor arcana seemed to me to be missing cohesiveness. Overall it was a very surface explanation of tarot that leaned toward the love and light crowd. She went over every card, as well as spreads, and did a very nice visualization of the tarot journey at the end. Liked the audio overall.

Historia
Felicia, Lizbeth Rose’s younger half-sister and student at the Grigori school within the capital of the New Holy Russian Empire in San Diego, is caught between secrets and powerful family struggles. As a distant relative to the Tsar, she provides an essential service to him by providing blood transfusions for his hemophilia, and she is thus given rare access and dismissed as if cattle. At the Grigori school she is seen as a charity case, a poor orphan with no prospects and no sign of magical prowess—the latter which Felicia keeps purposefully hidden.

I like how the author was able to show Felicia’s vulnerability in her want of a family and to belong, but how both her and Lizabeth stand on business when it’s time woman up.

I love a good grown woman story where the MC accepts her humanness and revels in the heat of battle and carnal delights. I wish I could find more writers and books like this.

Historia
I remember the day he walked through our front door, bloodied and broken with the kind of torment that breeds, but never dies. Papa had one rule for him. Stay away from his daughter. He didn’t. Years later, he crashes back into my life and tears down all of the walls I built up around myself. We’re both hiding secrets, but when the mafia world collides with the MC world, the shrapnel could destroy everyone around us. Now the president of the Chicago chapter, not even I was prepared for his return.

Author had a lot of ideas, but no follow through
Revisado: 01-29-24
The plot was slippery; just when I thought I had it, it would slip through my fingers and another plot-twist would begin. After the little girl got burned up and I never really got an explanation, I stopped reading.

Missing something
Revisado: 01-26-24
The plot needs a little more substance and has too many holes. Why is so much of the MC’s life wrapped around what this Des character did or didn’t do? I guess I’ll never know. I’m into the 9th chapter and I still haven’t gotten ‘the hook’; the thing that makes me what to keep reading to find out what happens.

Lead character is a dit
Revisado: 01-25-24
Lead character was such a disappointing queen. It’s the 4th or 5th book and she still doesn’t take her role seriously nor does she care about her vampire people. She obviously values the norms’ lives over her people. The virtue signaling is so tiresome in this genre. Where are the books where the newly turned take ownership of their new lives instead of complaining endlessly about staying beautiful, young, rich and having great swx? (sigh) This is the last one for me. I’m tired of this ungrateful dit, as in ditsy.

Drinking blood sickens her and, despite her new enhanced physical skills and the attention she's receiving from Lord Montserrat, she's desperate to find a cure. When her illegal search takes her to the door of Fingertips and Frolics, a small family-run magic shop, she becomes embroiled in a dangerous game of tit-for-tat with murderous consequences.

Can’t stand the main character.
Revisado: 12-19-23
I wanted to keep going, but the main character is repugnant. She’s rude, a poorly skilled fighter who has to get saved a lot, doesn’t take her limitations seriously, ungrateful, kinda stupid, and a bigot to boot. (Constantly referring to the vampires by a slur even after they correct her and tell her it’s offensive.) There’s really nothing there for me to admire or even relate to at this point.
I was able to overlook it in the first book, but the second became so annoying, i couldn’t remember why I was letting myself be annoyed. I may have been holding out for a sex scene, but I bet she ruins that too. (sigh)

Self-righteousness at its core
Revisado: 12-15-23
Emma? Why are you going after killers if you have no intention of killing to defend yourself. You put yourself and everyone around you at risk to defend the rights of killers. That along with your disdain for weapons puts you at odds with yourself.

Good, but could have been better
Revisado: 10-14-23
The sex was hot, but the story line didn’t make much sense. Why would the daughter of a nurse and engineer be poor and working as a maid struggling through school, and having to pay her family’s medical bills with her pittance? Could it be that sometimes white writers can’t make darker skinned characters relatable unless those characters are struggling financially and/or dealing with some sort of familial dysfunction? The author should explore that and get a more diverse friend circle.
