This is one of my favorite "angel" stories of all time, I have listened to the first 4 audios at least 4 times. So I could never not like final book in TPS. First, I must say author did explained everything and satisfied my curiosity about why and how Evie became half angel Evie. But..this book read more like an action movie than previous 4. Everything was happening so fast that we really didn't get those periods in between action where Evie just had sweet, sensual or snarky dialogue with Reed, Brennus, Russel, Z. Pretty much there was no interesting, character building downtime like Evie at Crestwood, in UP with Russell, in China with Reed, in Castle with the Fellas, on Zee's Island with the gang. It was more..you know the characters.. now everything to get to the end has to happen, bam, bam bam. The result was a lot of constant anger through first half of book and constant explanation though second half. Since I really do know these characters it was fine although I think author could have made this into 2 books and added those calmer character interaction moments, maybe her soul and X, Reed first noticing Simone or some interaction with Evie and Tau. Don't shoot me but I would gladly take two books if author added those interactions she does so well. The end was satisfying enough but then open enough I so hope Bartol revisits with the different adventures she clearly set up for the gang down the road.

The narration itself was a bit strange since the prior books made her my favorite narrator, she had different, perfect voices for all characters. Inequity felt like she forgot how to do certain characters like Reed, Z, Brownie, Fynn. Zee was missing his nasally voice which I actually liked and Brown sounded just like Buns w/o some "sweeties" when she was previously very breathy voiced. Brennus sounded a bit like Ian, less like smooth King Brennus. Towards the end I thought narrator got closer to the previous reading but was almost like narrator hadn't listen to prior books to prepare for this one. Still better than many narrators imo.

This new series from Ilona Andrews starts off world building and introducting us to new heroine, Nevada and we get the the public persona of rich, cold killer Mad Rogen. Although I love that the authors' other heroine Kate Daniels is a bad*@# fighter and basically a loner, I adore that here Nevada has softness and vulnerability although she can take care of herself just fine. The story hints that it is these qualities of Nevada that ultimately draw cold as ice Mad Rogan. The story goes as smart, sassy, PI Nevada is taking care of her beloved family and forced into a "suicide mission" to find a pyromanic, Adam Pierce in order to keep the family investigative company in their hands. Along the way Rogan finds he has similar interest in finding the terrorist Adam Pierce so they team up. We get to know Nevada, her motivations and why she has the backbone to keep refusing stoney Rogan. Although we suspect there is more to Mad Rogan than the destructive killer that wants Nevada saving others by accident when his interest coincides, we don't really get much from him (except that he is nice to look at and a cold magic using destroyer of cities) and neither does Nevada so no wonder she refuses him! The fact the he indicates he hasn't felt/wanted someone as much as Nevada in so long makes it implied that there is more to him then just this public persona. I think this is why some many reviewer were down on Rogan, we really didn't get much of his inner workings and we got so much of Nevadas motives. Although I don't mind a hardened hero, at some point we need to see why the hero is swayed by the heroine. I am hoping the the next installment will have more of Rogan's side and how Nevada affects him so basically more actual romance action since we know the feels are there. I like that these two are very different as Nevada cares deeply about people and Rogan could care less what or who he destroys. Unlike Kate and Curran, Nevada and Rogan are more opposites and that is a good dynamic to work at toward bringing them together while solving the greater conflict. More inner workings of Rogan will be good since at times I found myself not minding crazy Adam as we get his full crazy personality.

I have read/listened to the Kate Daniels and the Edge series and this is new series is way funnier. I laughed out loud several times. Nevada is, as has been said, very Veronica Mars -ish and her family is hilarious! I definitely hope it is a trilogy but not more since I like the HEA or at least strong couples like Kate and Curran and not long drawn out separations some series other authors often provide.

The main comment I would give about the narration is that although I thought Renee Raudman was/is the Voice of Kate Daniels and I didn't mind her in the Edge series, I just did not think she fit well for Burn for Me. She did the secondary characters fine but the all important main characters were off. Nevada should be younger and more smarty pants and her voice for Rogan sounds like a crusty 66 year old cowboy that has been sitting in the sun too long definitely not a sexy early thirties badass destroyer of cities. I actually cringe at the thought of him getting romantic with Nevada with that voice in the next book! Sorry Renee is good narrator but just did not fit burn for me!

Overall I totally love hidden legacy world and feisty heroine but we need more depth from hero and wish for more fitting Narrator.

The narrator does excellent accents, she also does male voices just as well as female and young as well as older quite believable. This really helps the story, there is nothing like a male narrator trying to do female character too high pitched or a too aged narrator trying to sound like a 17 yr old girl to put you off an audiobook! Five stars all the way for her Irish, English and all accents as well as sounding like a teen girl and a masculine 18 year old boy! Amazing.

That said, I really did like the storyline of this series which involves the four elements of Water, Earth, Air and Fire and the marked ones, four teens, that carrier the individual elements and are suppose to ultimately allign them all into harmony. That was the goal from the first book. The angst of the first book was that Megan discovered she was the embodiment of the Air element but her love, Adam was the Water element and all historical accounts indicate that two marked carriers could not be together romantically without bringing about horrible consequences. Sigh. They vowed to be together anyway...Little did they know things would only get worse.

Mild spoilers but personally I like to know what I'm getting into with these trilogies Wish someone told me about two books after Shiver, but that is another story. Anyway, In this sequel, the author was able to change and heighten the angst for the teen couple so that now they could not even actually touch without freaky consequences, Adam getting his power sucked out of him by Megan. Yikes. This is occuring while these lovebirds are also having to witness Adam's brother's easy sexual relationship with the new girl dangled in front of them. I must admit I really liked Megan and Adam in book 1 so this was heartbreaking and frustrating.

Freaker still is the fact that Megan's elemental power is causing these problems with Adam as well as strange attractions also to his two siblings that are the carriers of the other elements of Fire and Earth. I was glad this was just a weird product of her power and not an actual love triangle. Along the way we get introduced to more about the Order keeping the history of the Marked and the Knights of the Marked. There is a lot going on here and a lot of history.

It is very interesting but I felt a lot was crammed in the last half and the ending was a bit confusing. There was a lot of, what just happened? Did they just do it or not? Did the fifth element just come and pass her by, so nothing changed or did it? What the what? Really, the whole last 3 hours were rushed. I felt, Megan seemed way too calm about her situation, her being banned from the other marked ones. It was just a sad confusing ending. I know it is being left for a 3rd book, but I felt we needed a bit more time with Megan before the strange showdown here. There was no time put into the major character losses at the end or how Megan reached her determination that she states to be the last. Cliffhanger indicating everything changed but there was no allignment, no fifth element here, sounds like nothing happened, yet. And, of course Megan and Adam still are not able to even be a couple now. Sob.

But, the author left me wanting the 3rd book, not exiting the series as I have exited some series after the first or second book. I am still very much interested in the series and how it plays out. I am hoping there will be more in the 3rd book on how Megan's character has developed and will get stronger, the resolution for the release of the elemental powers of course and dealing with life after loss. And, lets face it, please have a HEA for Megan and Adam! That poor boy just needed major hugs in this 2nd book! Hopefully 3rd book won't take a year and a half and hopefully it is quick to be in audiobook for with the same narrator! Oh well, looks like its almost been a year now so my fingers are crossed but won't hold my breath!
