The Crusades is an authoritative, accessible single-volume history of the brutal struggle for the Holy Land in the Middle Ages. Thomas Asbridge - a renowned historian who writes with "maximum vividness" (Joan Acocella, The New Yorker) - covers the years 1095 to 1291 in this big, ambitious, listenable account of one of the most fascinating periods in history.

i delved into this wanting to get a thorough historical perspective. it was going very well, however the narrator deep breath break in between sentances was very distracting. I listen with ear pod earphones and get detail audio sound. I could not stand the distraction and just stopped listening. unfortunate

Great historical fiction coupled with action
Revisado: 08-30-23
I've listened to all the books in this series and they sure draw you in. JT London has done a outstanding job with that. Truly enjoy historical fiction that ties and shares tid bits that we might not have otherwise gleaned from other stories. The different narrators were superb , where over time you begin to develop a picture of the different personalities and what they might look like. :) This will definitely make a great period piece and limited series for TV.

Historia
According the New York Times’ “1619 Project”, America was not founded in 1776, with a declaration of freedom and independence, but in 1619 with the introduction of African slavery into the New World. Ever since then, the “1619 Project” argues, American history has been one long sordid tale of systemic racism.

Great meticulous approach

the comparison was well done to show so much of the outright misrepresentation of the facts Hanna Jones tried to payout. its terrible that work folks continue to dwell on what happened over 160 years instead of highlights on the achievements made since then. Great narrator

Historia
To those who travel there today, the West Indies are unspoiled paradise islands. Yet that image conceals a turbulent, dramatic, and shocking history. For some 200 years after 1650, the West Indies became the strategic center of the Western world, witnessing one of the greatest power struggles of the age as Europeans made and lost immense fortunes growing and trading in sugar - a commodity so lucrative it became known as "white gold".

good content, terrible pronunciation by reader.

Great overview and easy to follow.
Revisado: 03-12-19
Great overview and easy to follow. However there were time that the narrator mis-pronounced names and Caribbean dialect that was a bit frustrating. i.e. Grenada is pronounced (grih-NAY-da) not Granada as in Granada Spain. Otherwise good . would recommend to others.

A miniseries should be next and long over due
Revisado: 10-30-17
A miniseries should be the next undertaking to bring some of the West Indies / Caribbean history to life . Fast moving , but well written and read. You almost feel that you're in the scenes when the events are happening. incorporating fiction with historical facts is an interesting way in telling the stories, but it keeps you interested in the outcome. Will definitely be an eye opener for folks who are oblivious to the West Indian people and it history and the parts the Empires played

Ever since Christopher Columbus stepped off the Santa Maria onto what is today San Salvador, in the Bahamas, and announced that he had arrived in the Orient, the Caribbean has been a stage for projected fantasies and competition between world powers. In Empire’s Crossroads, British American historian Carrie Gibson traces the story of this coveted area from the northern rim of South America up to Cuba, and from discovery through colonialism to today, offering a vivid, panoramic view of this complex region and its rich, important history.

Enlightening history worth the read
Revisado: 07-07-17
I'm from the West Indies and wanted to get a detail history of how things evolved over the centuries. This was good. Only issue, the narrator consistently mis-pronounced words in the way West Indians would. the emphasis was on the wrong letters and it became frustrating e.g. she'd say Gr"a"nada instead of Gr"e" nada, and a few others like that. Overall, the author did an outstanding job connecting so many pieces of island history in very educational and informative read. I'd recommend to any history buff.
