Historia
As Serious Eats's culinary nerd-in-residence, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt has pondered all these questions and more. Kenji shows that often, conventional methods don't work that well, and home cooks can achieve far better results using new - but simple - techniques. In hundreds of easy-to-make recipes, you will find out how to make foolproof Hollandaise sauce in just two minutes, how to transform one simple tomato sauce into a half dozen dishes, how to make the crispiest, creamiest potato casserole ever conceived, and much more.

Amazing book - But almost no metric units
Revisado: 04-15-23
This book is magnificent!
I have learned so much about cooking and the science behind, all while being thoroughly entertained by the author's humorous writing.
The only downside:
There are almost no metric units mentioned. Temperature is mentioned very often and always in Fahrenheit, making it hard to relate to and remember.
The bonus PDF contains many great recipes, but is a bit disorganized and it is not clear how the audio content relates to the pdf content.
Would still highly recommend this book, and I think a physical copy would be a good addition to my library.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

The most important book I have read in many years
Revisado: 03-22-20
This has changed my view on sleep dramatically and I think every person on the planet should read it or at least learn the lessons in some way as part of their education.
The narrator's is performance is completely phenomenal and perfectly fitting for this book.

We are stuck, stymied, frustrated. But it needn't be this way. There is a formula for success that's been followed by the icons of history - from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs - a formula that let them turn obstacles into opportunities. Faced with impossible situations, they found the astounding triumphs we all seek.

Great
Revisado: 02-28-20
A lot of other great things have been said about this book already. I won't repeat it, as I agree with most of it.
I will say that it can be a bit too "you can do it" or even "you have to do it" at times. It is also somewhat repetitive - just like Meditations is.
What took this from 4 to 5 stars for me was the interview with Ryan Holiday in the postscript, conducted by Tim Ferriss. It is really down to earth and insightful.

Mostly nonsense and pseudoscience
Revisado: 09-03-19
Misuses quantum mechanics and epigenetics to build up assurance in the listener that this is science-backed. There is no doubt that thinking the right thoughts and feeling the right things will change your outlook on life, but here it is presented as mind control to bend reality.
The book presents some theory from other fields, including psychology and psychiatry (closer to the authors area of expertise), and this theory seems sound, however you don't know what you can believe in this book anymore.

Packed with content but can lack in depth
Revisado: 04-25-19
It covers a wide range of things to consider when starting and running a business. It is a really dense collection of tips and tricks, which can be quite overwhelming when listened to versus reading at your own pace. I think a printed version of the book is very useful in these cases. The audiobook contains a lot of links and tables read rather verbatim, so be prepared for that. I think the printed version could be a great reference.
There are also long lists of tips and tricks, especially in the first chapters without much depth. The book could benefit from more examples and anecdotes from the authors' lives where each tip is solidified and exemplified.
Especially for later stages of a business that the reader have not experienced first hand yet, painting the picture of how to negotiate a funding round or an exit with a detail level akin to fiction could be really great. Almost like telling it as a story.
The reader is clear, easy to understand, not monotone, lively and generally great to listen to.
