Historia
Rachel Held Evans is widely recognized for her theologically astute, profoundly honest, and beautifully personal books, which have guided, instructed, edified, and shaped Christians as they seek to live out a just and loving faith. At the time of her tragic death in 2019, Rachel was working on a new book about wholeheartedness. With the help of her close friend and author Jeff Chu, that work-in-progress has been woven together with some of her other unpublished writings into a rich collection of essays.

Raw, intimate, and timely, Bolz-Weber’s latest book offers a full-blown overhaul of our harmful and antiquated ideas about sex, gender, and our bodies. This is a journey of holy resistance. Along the way, as antidotes to shame, heresy, and all-too-familiar injustice, Bolz-Weber shares stories, poetry, and scripture, cultivating resilient hope and audacious love rooted in good news that is “powerful enough, transgressive enough, and beautiful enough to heal not only the ones who have been hurt but also those who have done the hurting.”

will take time to digest...
Revisado: 11-01-20
Wow. This book will take some time to digest. I'm in the middle of thinking deeply about many things (people seem to call this "deconstruction") and I am not confident I "agree" with every word or claim in this book...but agreeing isn't really the point of the journey. It is most certainly written by a Pastor and hearing it read by the Pastor herself was a special experience. Nadia clearly cares deeply for her congregation and for the extension of her congregation...her readers. Give it a listen if you want to experience what it's like to be seen/heard/loved. That's how I felt.

Historia
Sarah Bessey was in her sweet spot: a popular author, sought-after speaker and preacher, and an active and engaged mother of four, married to the love of her life. Raised within the Word of Faith and prosperity movements, which declared that obedience to God led to untold blessings, her life seemed to prove the preachers of her childhood were right. Then she was in a car accident with life-shattering consequences, and everything she thought she knew about God and faith was upended. Sarah tells us the whole story of the car accident that changed her body and changed her life.

life changing
Revisado: 10-13-19
Sometimes I finish an audible book and realize I'm also going to need to buy the print version so I can digest it both ways. This is one of those times. I loved hearing the story because Sarah is a storyteller in the best kind of way. I felt like I was hearing a novel but it is also a memoir but it is also rich in theology...and I also want to read the story so I can slow down and reflect on some of the questions Sarah asks and some of the truths God has been teaching her.

Historia
If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? When Rachel Held Evans found herself asking these questions, she began a quest to better understand what the Bible is and how it is meant to be read. What she discovered changed her—and it will change you too.
Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay. Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.

love!
Revisado: 10-10-19
I'm very sad we will never have another story from RHE on this side of eternity. But wow. This book is incredible and it challenges you to dig into Scripture and the Christian life in ways that are deeper than most of us do and new in the sense that most of us have probably not studied the ways Jewish rabbis interact with Scripture or the various cultures of the cities Paul wrote his famous letters to. RHE loves Jesus deeply and lays the first stones on a path to His Kingdom that is narrow in the sense that it is hard and humbling, but wide in the sense that it is a path for as many different kinds of people as possible.

I've listened to this twice in the past two months and it's amazing. It is a very honest look at life with cancer and all of the questions it raises, especially questions around faith.

fun for all ages
Revisado: 12-15-17
I really enjoy this series. Fairy tales and a bit of satire. Perfect mix. For all the kids (and grown ups) who have wished that children's stories/movies told more complicated stories. A bit dark for super young kids...I'd say ages 10-11+ would be fine though

Great performance & story
Revisado: 08-03-16
What did you love best about A Clash of Kings?
I loved the way the narrator reads in various styles/voices for the different characters--it makes it easier to keep up with the huge number of characters and storylines. I moved between the audio book and the hard copy and enjoyed both!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Like most people, I enjoy the character of Jon Snow because of his courage and willingness to embrace his own story...I also enjoy Tyrion and Dani for many of the same reasons. Looking forward to the development and I'm guessing eventually meeting of these characters...I haven't watched the show, so the books are all new to me.
What about Roy Dotrice’s performance did you like?
Good speed, tone, and voice shifts for different characters--really captures their personalities
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no--way too complicated of a book for that--I listened an hour or two at a time so I could let it sink in
