Ok story. Narrator was great.
Revisado: 03-30-25
The story was not as good as the other books mostly because of the shift in character focus. Sierra was a very annoying character to follow in the other books but it wasn't bad because all the characters had equal focus, but not in this book. it was 85% Sierra and I could hardly stand it.
The narrator was great as always.

Brutal, agonizing convulsions simultaneously strike a quarter of the Earth’s population. There is no warning and no discernible pattern regarding race, age, gender, or region. The afflicted die within moments of one another. Seven minutes later they rise again and attack the living. The speed at which the disaster happens is too great for any organized response. Towns are overrun. The government and military find themselves unable to react. Civilization crumbles in a matter of hours. By the end of the first day, the streets are filled with shambling corpses, mindless beings driven solely by ...

Story might have been better with a different narrator
Revisado: 10-12-24
I hate to say it but the narration choice destroyed this story for me. Just someone reading (not preforming just reading in the same tone all the way through) in a not so pleasant voice distracted from the plot, characters, everything.
Now the story dis seem interesting and I wanted to know what would happen to the characters, but the 5 minute random summary/explanations at the beginning if every episode was unnecessary and to be frank... boring. I started skipping them as they brought nothing to the story.
Full disclaimer, I couldn't finish the story, the narration was just too much for me to handle. amd it's too bad, I was curious about this story.

Great story but narration could have been better
Revisado: 10-12-24
Absolutely loved this story. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters while they were dealing with the stress of the apocalypse. I truly felt like I was traveling with them across the country. Some choices made during their journey did seem rather stupid and plot driven but that didnt happen too often. I would love a continuation of their life after the most recent events of the story. And I hope the (light spoiler) new relationship works out!
Now the narration was really just someone reading. When I hit play on these podcasts I expect a performance. This is honestly the first one that didn't have voice changes for characters or even a change in tone to support dialouge vs thoughts. Despite this, it was still enjoyable. Would be amazing if a whole cast was involved in production in future projects.
Overall, definitely worth listening to.

Good, but Word Vomit galore
Revisado: 01-18-24
This story has the potential to be great, but there are too many thoughts and over explanations and it ruins the immersion. I kid you not during a fight Michael starts reminiscing and thinking and that last an ENTIRE CHAPTER.... 25 mins until we actually returned to the fight. the fight lasted 3 chapters. It's just completely unnecessary.
Once you get past (and I mean that literally, skip that mess) the word Vomit, a good story is hiding. the world building is great and interesting. I was looking forward to finding more out about the world and seeing Michael and his friends become stronger. It's unfortunate so much of the book is wasted on stupid over analyzing and we don't get to experience more character interaction. Michael and Sophie hardly talk in the book, but while we were busy listening to monologs... they developed a great friendship. I would have liked to experience that instead of learning about the chemical components of a fantastical weapon for 10 mins.
I still have hope for this series, so on to book 3, I go.

Now, magic is long gone from the world. So Penn works as a karate instructor, trying very hard to dodge her hot, flirty, and super annoying colleague, Callan. Excellent story... but that narrator omg
Revisado: 03-27-23
This was a great story- different from others I've listened to in the same genre. I look forward to future insallments! The world building was great I enjoyed a world that knew they had lost magic as opposed to secret societies or just being oblivious. All the characters were great as well. At times their backgrounds were a little bland, but I hope there will be more details in the future. The main character is very guarded and it also caused a bit of a disconnect for me as a reader. The character's emotions/feelings were hidden from the readers too!
Now the narrator almost made me stop listening. At times, she read worse than my 10 year old. towards the middle of the book, the narrator gets better to the point its tolerable but just barely -it was not easy. If the narrator is the same next book I'll buy the paperback instead.

Promising but falls short
Revisado: 03-20-23
This story had potential. The world building was interesting but lost its shine due to the horrible main character. She acts more like a teenager instead of an adult and she is way too full of herself - it's very annoying. Her personality may not have been so bad if the author didn't continuously repeat things. Half of this story could be removed from the constant repeat of information or feelings of the same things over and over. What could have been a great urban fantasy was ruined by the writers attempt to make the story longer than it needed to be.
The narrator was great and the only saving grace .

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 12-22-22
The main character is an idiot, not even a fun one, just plain dumb. I have about 2 hours left in the book and I just can't finish it. I normally don't leave such negative reviews but this really upset me! I tried to give the story a chance but after the MC making the same mistakes over and over I gave up. It's like the only way the author could move the story along was for the MC to do something stupid or blatantly ignore the good advice he's given.
I won't be continuing this story.
The narrator was good at least.

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Not bad ready for book 2!
Revisado: 12-16-22
After reading some reviews I was hesitant but decided to give this story a try. it is not bad! I enjoy the Main character a lot. he is different and has an original orgin story of sorts. i look forward to his journey. The only person I didn't like was the 13 year old boy that the main character cant let go of for some reason. he is annoying and it really makes no sense why the MC would care about him. The other characters make a lot more sense. I enjoy them all. I would like to see the MC with people his own age more. When he is with the adults conversations flow better - things make sense and get to a point. The best parts of the story are when the MC is away from the boy or at least not with him solo. The MC and his journey are more interesting than him making this kid strong. I really hope the story lessens the interactions with the boy. The MC and the bunny 🐰 are a better match than the kid.
The world building was not bad, though if you are not familiar with lit rpgs you may be a little confused, but it doesn't take much to catch on.
The narrator was awesome. wouldn't change a thing!
Overall despite 1 annoying characters I still look forward to the next story. I hope the MC gets some more friends his own age the travel with him!

Awesome Story
Revisado: 12-14-22
This story was great. The MC seemed really stupid in the beginning but that changed quickly and I am glad I waited for the other shoe to drop. The author managed to make a relatable MC that made smart choices (again not in the beginning, lol) and I cared about his well being. The changes in the infected made a different spin on things, that was welcomed. It had your typical undead cliches, but the new spins were a nice addition. The only reason I gave the story a 4 and not a 5 is how ridiculously stupid the main character was until the infection took over the city.
The Narrator was amazing. Just perfect for this story. So i have to warn you ahead of time the narrator for Books 2 and 3 (especially 3) are god awful. I skipped to book 4 and it was better but not as amazing as the narrator is with this first story.
