Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Awesome book, weird narration
Revisado: 04-21-24
As I’m sure is the case for many people, I got interested in this book because of the movies. I will say from the get-go that the book itself is absolutely amazing. I loved it!
The reason I rated the performance three stars was because it is very strange. About half the time it is narrated by a narrator, who is super good and engaging. Half the time, though, it has different voice actors doing the different characters, which is very strange. The weirdest thing of all is that there doesn’t seem to be any real consistency. It switches back-and-forth between one narrator doing everything and then using voice actors. Again, overall, the book is awesome. And the parts narrated by the narrator are excellent. But the parts with the actors, including the one who does the Baron Vladimir Harkonen and who sounds exactly like Darth Vader, are a little strange.

Since its original publication by Little, Brown and Company, in 1942, Edith Hamilton's Mythology has sold millions of copies throughout the world and established itself as a perennial best-seller in its various available formats. Mythology succeeds like no other audiobook in bringing to life for the modern listener the Greek, Roman, and Norse myths and legends that are the keystone of Western culture - the stories of gods and heroes that have inspired human creativity from antiquity to the present.

Great material, but drags a little bit at the end
Revisado: 03-14-24
This is an awesome recounting, all in one place, of the most important Greek and Roman myths. I listened to it after having listened to the Stephen Fry Mythos books, and found it to be a great way to review all the material from those volumes. The stuff at the end about Norse mythology is a little too compact for my tastes. It wasn’t immediately clear to me why it was included. Overall, though, highly recommended.

Awesome, Best in the series
Revisado: 02-06-24
I’ve absolutely loved all three of the books in the Mythos series, but this one was my favorite. All the drama of the Iliad is here, plus the backstory and later details from other sources that you don’t get in Homer. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

I loved Mythos, but I enjoyed this one even more. I found that following the stories of the heroes was easier for me than keeping track of the seemingly innumerable gods and goddesses. And, of course, Stephen Fry’s narration is wonderful.

I could listen to Stephen Fry read the phone book, his narration is so great. But apart from that, this book is hugely entertaining and has reawakened in me an interest in the Greek myths. I’m looking forward to the others in the series. Highly recommended.

I have meant to read crime and punishment for ages, and finally got around to it through this audiobook. It is definitely not an easy book emotionally or psychologically, but provides no end of food for thought. The reader on this version is amazing. One of the best that I have encountered.

Historia
In Revolution, Peter Ackroyd takes listeners from William of Orange's accession following the Glorious Revolution to the Regency, when the flamboyant Prince of Wales ruled in the stead of his mad father, George III, and England was - again - at war with France, a war that would end with the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo. Late Stuart and Georgian England marked the creation of the great pillars of the English state. The Bank of England was founded, as was the stock exchange.

Great history of the long 18th Century
Revisado: 02-08-23
This volume covers the period from the Glorious Revolution of 1688 through the final defeat of Napoleon in 1815. It has all the verve and wit of the others in the series, but the reader is much better than in the previous three volumes. If you stuck with the series for vol’s 1-3, you’ll be very pleasantly surprised by the change in reader for this one.
