Short story at best
Revisado: 08-05-24
Love Nelson Demille and have read almost all of his novels.
The Maze is not as well crafted as his other creations and was just too redundant and overworked. Each chapter has long sections of cut and paste dialogue. I am a fan of John Corey the main character but there were times I was hoping the Russians would find him and put me out of my misery!

Historia
Paris in the 1940s was a place of fear, power, aggression, courage, deprivation, and secrets. During the occupation, the swastika flew from the Eiffel Tower and danger lurked on every corner. While Parisian men were either fighting at the front or captured and forced to work in German factories, the women of Paris were left behind where they would come face to face with the German conquerors on a daily basis, as waitresses, shop assistants, or wives and mothers, increasingly desperate to find food to feed their families as hunger became part of everyday life.

I had to speed up the narration to get through. Story well crafted but too caught up in the main character’s view on life.

It was just too slow - even speeding up the narration did not help - I haven’t read other works by this author but I do enjoy historical fiction & stopped after 2 hours into this audible freebie.

The narration was superior. The difficult subject matter handled adroitly. Sadly, the story was extremely difficult to finish. The 10 hour audible book should have been condensed to a short story.

Easy story but narrative bogs down with the repetitive ‘I say’ throughout. 4 points of
view keep the story interesting. Narration is a bit stiff at times but overall 4stars
