Historia
In this fascinating account of the surprisingly violent fifth-century church, Philip Jenkins describes how political maneuvers by a handful of powerful characters shaped Christian doctrine. Were it not for these battles, today's church could be teaching something very different about the nature of Jesus, and the papacy as we know it would never have come into existence. Jesus Wars reveals the profound implications of what amounts to an accident of history: that one faction of Roman emperors and militia-wielding bishops defeated another.

Historia
In this groundbreaking history of the modern American metropolis, Richard Rothstein explodes the myth that America's cities came to be racially divided through de facto segregation - that is, through individual prejudices, income differences, or the actions of private institutions like banks and real estate agencies. Rather, he incontrovertibly makes clear that it was de jure segregation - the laws and policy decisions passed by local, state, and federal governments - that actually promoted the discriminatory patterns that continue to this day.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Historia
Here, celebrating the 20th anniversary of its debut as a New York Times best seller, is the revised, updated, and expanded edition of the classic anti-textbook that changed the way we look at history. First published two decades ago, when the “closing of the American mind” was in the headlines, Don’t Know Much About History proved Americans don’t hate history - just the dull version that was dished out in school. Now Davis has brought his groundbreaking work up to the present, including the history of an “Era of Broken Trust"....

Eye opening on many accounts
Revisado: 12-15-20
I do feel on a few historical events the author avoided pointing out even more discrepancies surrounding those events. But I also learned some things that I did not know. Since most of us only know what the media gives us this is truly a revealing work!

A must read for every African American
Revisado: 10-24-19
From the very first chapter I questioned if this book had been remastered. I thought to myself it was no way this was written in 1933! Dr C.G. Woodson was a prophet who tried to educate us in what was going on and what we needed to do then and it still applies now. The information is so riveting that you'll start the book and will not be able to put it down! Narrator performance was excellent as well! This book is a MUST!

Historia
Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography is an intimate look at the day-to-day dealings of a drug kingpin in the heart of the ghetto. It's also the story of a boy born in poverty in Texas who grew up in a single-parent household in the heart of South Central, who was pushed through the school system each year and came out illiterate. His options were few, and he turned to drug dealing. This untold autobiography is not only personal, but also historical in its implications.

Riveting story!
Revisado: 10-12-19
The story of freeway Ricky Ross highlights the story of so many inner city youths. it answers the "why" from both the dealer and government perspective. What's refreshing is it does this without the festive narrative that every dealer is this violent, self hating, greedy person we've been led to believe they all are.
