Historia
Deep Space One was sent on a one-way mission to save the people of Earth. Their mission was to find a new home for the survivors of a dying planet. They trusted each other and in the importance of their mission. What they found out en route was not expected, and the information they learned changed everything for them and the people they left behind.

Good sci-fi short story. I liked this selection!
Revisado: 12-05-18
--no spoilers--
This was a great idea for a story that was well written and performed. _If_ you're looking for some good Sci-Fi and are OK with it being on the short side, I whole-heartedly recommend this!
Sometimes with Audible, stories can run on for 12 or more hours. I am rarely in a position to listen for 12 hours straight and since I don't always have a long commute, it can be a challenge (1) getting into a story and (2) finishing it. No so with this title. My only complaint (and it's minor) is that there's ample material for a follow-up and follow-on story after this and I hope the author considers that possibility. I could see this being part of a three of four part short story series -- a part on Earth, a part at the destination, and maybe a part still farther down the road.
Another aspect that I liked was that the characters were realistic, had some depth, and drove the story. You don't have much time with a short story format to develop characters in detail. I felt the author did a great job in that regard and left me with a good understanding of who they were, what they valued, and why they were there.

Poor phone and Windows App Experience
Revisado: 08-27-18
Where to begin? I got this as a promo from Audible and it really aligned with some personal goals (I recently read "Hurry Up and Meditate" by David Michie and have been looking to put that knowledge to use). However, this is a very frustrating title and the promo only seems to make it worse. If you didn't need to meditate _before_ you tried this title; the stress and frustration from it will push you over the top.
1. It will "turn into a pumpkin on 9/5". Well, OK, I figured that gives me some time to check it out, maybe even listen to two tracks a day to get my 30 days worth in and really evaluate it.
2. Then, I find on my phone that you can't easily download ALL TRACKS. Why? Does someone really think that pressing 30 times (once on each track to download on a phone) is the best way to endear your product? NEWSFLASH: IT SUCKS! I was on the road, trying to listen to this material and got to experienced this added irritation.
3. So I tried it at home and I can't find it in my library AT ALL on my Windows Laptop. Why is that? Could be a bad app (though it seems to work with other audio titles) or maybe it's the time-bombed product (how do you disable a downloaded audio when it's supposed to self-destruct).
4. Trying to download from the web page (where it clearly shows up in my library) just prompts me to install the Windows app and have more fun with issue #3. Grrrr….
5. HULK ANGRY!!!
So...my brief listen was unenjoyable. I still have a few days and hope to get through some of the tracks, but I'm warning you -- leave some time for prep (to select and download EACH AND EVERY item you want or might want to listen to), forget using your window laptop (and I'm guessing tablets are out of luck too, but I'm not 100% sure there), and -- Aaptive people -- I thought this was a good idea, but my initial experience WAS NOT. You really run the risk of people just deciding it's not worth the hassle and making this an "Easter Island" product where newcomers ask "who built this and why is it here?".

Historia
Oliver Sacks' The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat tells the stories of individuals afflicted with fantastic perceptual and intellectual aberrations: patients who have lost their memories and with them the greater part of their pasts; who are no longer able to recognize people and common objects; who are stricken with violent tics and grimaces or who shout involuntary obscenities; whose limbs have become alien; who have been dismissed as retarded yet are gifted with uncanny artistic or mathematical talents.

Great book! Worth the time to read or listen!
Revisado: 08-06-18
This was an entertaining and enlightening read from a man who clearly was a practicing neurologist interested in furthering his knowledge and helping others with his insights. One issue came through -- there are some places where the verbiage has not aged well. He refers to some patients as "retarded" -- a standard when he was practicing, but likely not acceptable now. In another case, he referred to a couple of patient (IIRC) as "idiots" (reflecting an IQ of 0-25) -- again, perfectly acceptable in the early 80's and a term I learnt in a 200-level psychology class in college around the same time frame (his career in the book extended to the late 70's and early 80's and the textbook we were using in class likely first written well before I took the class); regardless, I doubt it's used the same way now and I never hear it in that context today. Having said that, the rest of the material is fascinating and really stays with you. One of the last stories -- about the medical student is one I still can't quite noodle out (and apparently he never did either), but it really makes me wonder about the nature of dreams, their relationship to the mind, and sensory perceptions.
