Historia
If you're like most people, you think that your choices and behaviors are driven by your individual personal tastes and opinions. You wear a certain jacket because you like the way it looks. You picked a particular career because you found it interesting. The notion that our choices are driven by our own personal thoughts and opinions is patently obvious. Right? Wrong. Without our realizing it, other people's behavior has a huge influence on everything we do at every moment of our lives, from the mundane to the momentous occasion.

a good book that pairs nicely with his others
Revisado: 09-01-22
there are some comments on here about it not being substantive enough. there are a few stories that are perhaps too long, but I disagree that it's confusing or overly long. overall, a good book that pairs nicely with his others

Historia
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

The Best Book on its Subject
Revisado: 07-15-19
This is the best case for moderate politics that I have ever heard and the best theory of moral psychology of which I know. As a conservative student of politics, despite Dr. Haidt's ideological background, I found this book incredibly insightful. Highly recommend.

Historia
"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

Not Everything is New. Last Chapter is Gold.
Revisado: 04-01-19
The first and last chapters were incredible. The middle just felt like a reiteration of her other books in the context of American politics. Sometimes it felt like she was just using the platform of a new book on belonging to opine about politics, though I don't think that was her intention. Her views didn't offend me, but they weren't robust enough to offer anything new about politics and sometimes distracted from the main theme. Overall, I am glad I read this.
