All good things, even laughter and orange marmalade cake, must come to an end. And in Light from Heaven, the long-anticipated final volume in the phenomenally successful Mitford Years series, Karon deftly ties up all the loose ends of Father Timothy Kavanagh's deeply affecting life.

Each book is my favorite
Revisado: 10-28-24
My favorite part of these books (after having listened to them over and over) is the way Father Tim DOES make everyone family. This book is a shining example of that theme. What could be a better example of family than ending with the Christmas story and the arrival of a long awaited family member. The other aspect I cherish is John McDonough’s narration; especially his singing. What a beautiful voice! What a gift it is to listen to his narration again and again.

Historia
The Anna Pigeon mysteries are a New York Times best-selling series. Each addition is eagerly anticipated by fans of its award-winning author Nevada Barr, who uses her experience as a park ranger to create stunningly authentic details. Blood Lure takes Park Ranger Anna Pigeon high into Glacier Park and deep into a grisly murder case. Anna has joined a bear research team in the vast park that spreads from Montana into Canada.

I love Nevada Barr and the Anna Pidgeon series. I loved the humor is the preceding novel, but the ending for Blood Lure was much more satisfying. A big hit all around.

Historia
Clare Fergusson, St. Alban's new priest, fits like a square peg in the conservative Episcopal parish at Miller's Kill, New York. She is not just a "lady"; she's a tough ex-Army chopper pilot, and nobody's fool. Then a newborn infant left at the church door brings her together with the town's police chief, Russ Van Alstyne, who's also ex-Army and a cynical good shepherd for the stray sheep of his hometown.

I adore these books!
Revisado: 04-06-23
I have listened to Bleak Midwinter so many times that I know many of the lines. My favorite line in this first book is Russ’s response when the ED doctor says being chief is neat and Russ’s response is “I think so!” What an ego! The characters are so well developed and I also enjoy Suzanne Toren’s narration. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Will it ever come out? (April 5, 2023)

Historia
Nestled in the heart of the Adirondacks, Miller's Kill, New York is about as safe as it gets. That's why Episcopal minister Clare Fergusson is shocked when the July Fourth weekend brings a rash of vicious assaults to the scenic town. Even Clare's good friend, police chief Russ Van Alstyne, is shaken by the brutality of the crimes - especially when it appears that the victims were chosen because they are gay.

Julia Spencer-Fleming has been a cherished author for a long time for me. I have read and reread all of her books. Torren’s narration is consistent, at times funny, and always well done. I love this series.

Stellar all around
Revisado: 01-29-23
Julia Whelan’s performance is outstanding. The story is compelling and believable. I experienced so many emotions listening to this novel. Highs at the courage of the female characters. Heartaches from the losses these characters experienced. Anger at the examples of greed and inhumanity shown to the “outsiders” in this story.

Stay in my mind for years
Revisado: 04-20-22
This story will live in my mind for years. The plot’s resolution was, perhaps not unexpected. But oh did it make me smile. Sometimes, even in fiction, people do the right thing. Excellent narration. The music was tolerable.

Fascinating and so beautifully written!
Revisado: 05-10-21
This book kept my attention right up to the end. I loved the characters struggles with integrity and love. Issac’s relationship to his Quaker faith was fascinating and enlightening. His struggles are everyone’s struggles for strength and truth and self-honesty. The story or Lorie and her family is heartbreaking and yet beautiful as she is such a generous soul, inspite of of her multiple losses. And the heroine ! What a beautiful young woman, often more responsible than the adults she encounters. Loved this book. Can’t wait for the next one!

Nasal narration. Too many platitudes.
Revisado: 08-20-19
I wanted to like this book. It’s based in the northwest. The connection to the me-too movement was compelling. But there were just too many platitudes. The story was too predictable as well.
The nasal narration was often irritating and unvaried.

Love Dan Brown but oh my...
Revisado: 03-14-19
I enjoyed this book until about three quarters of the way through. Then the plot twists began to seem endless and I felt more the victim of the endless greed and conniving than an interested listener. I confess I slept through most of the last fourth of the book. I woke about the time the evil character got his due. Nice, satisfying ending. As always, interesting information about the workings of government, NASA, and oceanography. But gosh, Dan, it was just sooooo long!

Revisado: 09-25-18
Almost every woman i know has thought, at least once, of running away to a new, solitary life. I lived vicariously through Clara/Sarah’s journey. I adore this book, especially because of Ms Gilbert’s narration. At first, the bird sounds and information seemed a little crazy, but as I listened I fell for Ms Gilbert’s narration of even those.
