The duke and I was amazing. This is just ok.

Absolutely not.

The main character is a 22yr old smoking hot virgin (yea, ok.), who owns her own house (even less believable), that she bought with money she earned being a clown at birthday parties (even unbelievable in fiction.). Who’s older brothers best friend is a 28 yr old retired professional baseball player, and a ladies man.

He calls her “babygirl” as a pet name. (Barf).

I kept thinking “wow, this is the worst book I have ever read/listened to” it’s contrived and has terrible dialogue.

I kept listening in a horrific fascination. It was like a course on how not to write.

I can only describe the intimate scenes as uncomfortable and kind of gross. It was humorous to hear myself making unintentional sounds of disgust.

I absolutely stopped listening to this book somewhere in the middle of chapter 13. The main character is working her party clown job at a birthday party for five year olds. She volunteers her love interest to get his face painted. While she’s painting his face, and getting all hot and horny and having inner monologue about it, there is a group of five year olds around her with lines of dialogue.
Unacceptable.

I sincerely hope to never meet anyone that made it through this book. And especially never to meet anyone that enjoyed it.

Couldn’t stop listening

I absolutely fell in love with this book.
I hated the bitter sweet scooby doo ending. I would have loved this book better if the ending was all bitter and less predictable.
The book was so real. And the ending was a little too “wow, well woulda look at that.”

Daaaaaaaaaaamn

This was too thick for me to tackle in my early teens, and thank goodness for that lack of ambition. Jeez... this is one messed up book. And this is coming from someone who read Carrie when they were twelve and learned about menstruation for there; King is effectively the first person that told me periods existed two years before I had one. That being said, in my late thirties, IT was shocking. Damn man, they sure didn’t cover a lot of the scenes in the made for TV movie, or the recent remake. Because the book is disturbing. R.I.P. Chips the dog. And also, damn Patrick is so much more messed up.
This book is strange. And shocking. But King makes no apologies and crafts an intricate world.

Probably listened to it four or five times in the past two years

Easily one of my favorite books. It’s got a great pace. I have listened to it many times.
I also liked Armada by Ernest Cline.
The movie came out yesterday, going to go see it today. I’m curious to see what they were able to get the licensing to. And really excited. I hope the High Five is cast well and has good chemistry.

Get this book/ audiobook. And if you’re not into it, good news, audible has an excellent return policy.

I have to laugh at the people who wrote in 4 star or less reviews that the first half of the book is not about writing. They miss the point. King is sharing the parts of his life that shaped him as a writer and the struggles it took to become a successful one. If good writing is what someone seeks, they have to understand what it is to live a the life of a writer.
If a master writer/story teller is explaining their road through the profession, they are obviously going to tell it as a well written story.

I love this book, and revisit it. It’s a short listen. The narrator/author has a soothing voice and reads it well.

Sexist much?

So. Well written cool concepts. But the main characters love arch is to be inferior to her teacher, serve him, and chase him. I just detest the idea of a strong female lead waiting on a man. ... oh because she loves to cook? Doesn't even. Price when she's cleaning. Author is a man you say? No shock there.
