Historia
Alva Smith, her Southern family destitute after the Civil War, married into one of America’s great Gilded Age dynasties: the newly wealthy but socially shunned Vanderbilts. Alva defied convention for women of her time, asserting power within her marriage and becoming a leader in the women's suffrage movement. In A Well-Behaved Woman, Therese Anne Fowler paints a glittering world of enormous wealth contrasted against desperate poverty, of social ambition and social scorn, of friendship and betrayal, and an unforgettable story of a remarkable woman.

A Rare Female Perspective During the Gilded Age
Revisado: 03-30-19
I loved this audio book about Alva Vanderbilt. It was well-written and well-read. The author did a fabulous job of taking historical facts and meshing them with believable fiction.
The narrator did an impressive job of voicing each character and various accents. I was not put off at any point with her reading.
I'm glad that there was enough historical information on Alva that the author could formulate a broad picture if the real woman. Too many women in history are a side note or lost under all if the "great" men.

Are you tired of feeling f*cked up? If you are, Gary John Bishop has the answer. In this straightforward handbook, he gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the truly unf--ked version of yourself. "Wake up to the miracle you are," he directs. "Here's what you've forgotten: You're a f--king miracle of being." It isn't other people that are standing in your way; it isn't even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive. It's yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.

A good audio book for the work commute.

Easy to listen to, spoken in a common, direct dialog. His Scottish accent is not too thick and is pleasant to hear. The advice is direct and doesn't present itself with a bunch of technical jargon.
The book isn't a bunch of preaching but like a conversation with a wise uncle.

Historia
Secrets told in the church ladies' room are supposed to stay in the ladies' room. But that doesn't mean that what Trudy overhears there during her great-aunt Gertrude's funeral won't change the rest of her life. Trudy has a daughter in the middle of a major rebellion, a two-timing husband who has been cheating for their entire married life, and a mother with Alzheimer's residing in the local nursing home.

Easy, sweet story
Revisado: 05-23-17
I felt that the narrator's voice was nice but maybe too old sounding for the main character. The story was sweet with no vulgarities. Some things were over explained in the story. For example, the story mentioned a live Christmas tree stand but went into detail explaining what it was. It just seemed odd that the audience wouldn't know what a Christmas tree stand was. Overall the story was a nice way to pass the time but a little idealistic. Billie Lee needs to really exist!
