I don’t know why people still think the government is the best way to solve big problems. This books assumes that people will always do the right thing if you give them universal income, assumes the government will allocate “unlimited money“ efficiently, forgets that capitalism is the best way to push things forward even though it’s been shown all over the world even though it’s been shown to do so over and over.

The tactical implications of what he says people should do on the governmental level are spoken like a true academic - socialized medicine is the best, scientists need more grant money, take control out of the average person’s hands and give it to the government to decide like Australia - usual stuff from an academic. Too bad the awesome discussion of the science in the first part of the book had to be undone by the last part.

…that does not bash one side of the political spectrum or the other and leave religion out of it? I sure hope so, unfortunately this book didn’t. Too bad.

I have read a lot of Adams books and I have a lot of respect for him. The issue is this book was heavy on stories and short on data and left an overall shallow feeling. Great author, great talent but it seems like he’s starting to mail it.

Leave the politics out next time

Biden was in office for almost 2 years when this book was written. The war started under Biden’s watch and is now subject to Biden’s policies. However, there are no comments on things Biden could’ve done differently or better yet many statements about what Trump did wrong.

Ecellent - a breath of fresh air

It is easy to get overwhelmed these days as to what is up and what is down, particularly as one is bombarded with messages around White Privilege, CRT, Wokeness, etc. Douglas Murray grounds his reader in the truth of these issues. In a time when one can feel smothered by the accusatory culture, Douglas provides a breath of fresh air.

Clear and concise thinking about many topics that are impacting the world today. None of these issues are easy but Douglas does a great job clarifying the different positions. An excellent
listen that is well worth your time.

Is capitalism wrong? The author seems to make this case.

The author goes to great lengths to make sure everyone knows he is not anti-capitalism. However he seems to forget if a company, even if driven by short-term profit goals, does not deliver value to the customer they will go out of business. Ultimately, successful companies deliver on customer needs.
