Showdown Trail was first published in Giant Western magazine in winter 1948 under Louis L'Amour's Jim Mayo pseudonym. Years later, when L'Amour was first starting out as a paperback novelist, it was rewritten as The Tall Stranger. One of the earliest L'Amour westerns to be adapted for the movies, the film version starred Joel McCrea, Virginia Mayo, and Michael Ansara.

A good Louis L'Amour story...
Revisado: 03-24-25
However, don't buy this copy, purchase the same story in: "Showdown Trail: A Western Duo," which has this exact book PLUS the book, "The Trail to Peach Meadow Canyon." You'll get two stories for the price of one! I did not know I was getting the same book. Bummer. I learned my lesson--to do a search on my purchased books, since Louis L'Amour has so many books!
This version has a very good introduction about Louis L'Amour, but not worth the price of admission. Get the other copy!

Historia
Facing memory loss at age ninety-three as well as the fallout from a global pandemic that moved much of daily life online, legendary psychotherapist Irvin D. Yalom was forced to vastly reconsider the shape of his sessions with patients. Rather than throw in the towel in the face of change, Dr. Yalom considered head-on the limitations imposed by these new realities and revolutionized his practice. Turning his focus to what might be achieved in a one-hour, one-time-only meeting between patient and practitioner, Dr. Yalom employed an even more concerted use of his “here and now” approach.

Great Book on connecting and aging
Revisado: 12-27-24
I highly recommend this book, especially for those who love Yalom and his existential counseling. Also, this book is wonderful about being honest about aging and losing his spouse. He’s over 90 now.
Irvin Yalom is one of my favorite writers and I really enjoyed this book about Yalom’s life and counseling. Due to his failing memory, Yalom needed to switch to one-hour sessions, but he still connected with his patients in the here and how—and helped them.
I loved how Yalom was brutally honest about his aging process—I hopefully will age with dignity like he is aging.
Great listen. The narrator and Irvin’s son Benjamin did a fantastic job reading this book.
Overall comments?
As with most of his other books, Yalom is a master storyteller. I felt I could relate to him as a counselor and the client! He is still a master at this! I was very sorry and sad at the end of the book when I found out that Yalom stopped taking patients—I had thought about hooking up with him on Zoom and started writing my letter to him... I don’t mind if he forgets, he is still the master counselor and existential therapist. I plan on purchasing his next book!

Could be a Fantastic Book on the Presidents!
Revisado: 11-07-24
At first, confronting the Presidents was excellent, but the last chapter made me wonder about the rest of the book.
I’ve been waiting for this type of book for years! There are many things in this book that I wanted to MEMORIZE!!! Until I got to the last chapter, I would have highly recommended this book…
I thought Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard wrote a superb book—until the last chapter!!! They covered the key items of many presidents that helped shape our country. I wanted to listen to it again and again—until the last chapter… Then the last chapter made me wonder about what else was written in the book. Was it true or slanted?
I liked that the book read the footnotes, which were very educational and interesting. Also, the book and footnotes had some interesting trivia that I never heard, such as President John Adams named his dog Satan.
Some other “trivia” that this book covered:
George Washington did not get along with his mother!
John Adams liked to drink alcoholic Cyder with each breakfast. He walked 5 miles each day, usually with his son, future President John Quincy Adams, who also continued this good habit. “Move or die is the language of our Maker in the constitution of our bodies.”
Jefferson led a verbal rebellion against Adams in the press, having James T. Callender write damaging information about Adams, defying Adam’s Alien and Seditions Act. However, when Callender was arrested for this, Jefferson did not help this author out!
Thomas Jefferson was initially hated as the President. He was tall and freckled. He liked to soak his feet in ice water each morning!
Jefferson’s wife Martha died at 33, after having 6 children. He did not marry again.
Jefferson became eccentric in his second term, going to work in a robe and slippers! He also had a mistress, Sally Hemings, also known as “Black Sal,” who bore Jefferson three children!
NOTE: Wikipedia says he had six children with her (although I’m guessing this book is more accurate)… Also, Jefferson freed the surviving children on his death…
Dolly Madison’s favorite ice cream was oyster! She also liked asparagus, parmesan, and chestnut! Yummy!
I would have recommended this book, except for the last chapter I liked how the Robert Petkoff read this book.
Overall comments?
I think this book, with the problems corrected (especially the last chapter), should be taught in every school! Howard Zinn’s factually incorrect book, “A People’s History of the United States,” is taught in some schools (which probably should be outlawed as a teacher’s textbook—although not removed from the school library).
Problems. In one footnote, the authors got one key fact wrong. They stated that Adams and Jefferson were the only President and Vice President that were from different parties. President Lincoln (Republican) and VP Andrew Johnson (Democrat) were from different parties. Johnson went on to screw up America after the Civil War. Would a Republican VP have helped the nation come together sooner, after the Civil War ended? Probably!
Another problem with this book—why aren’t the photos in the book included as a PDF attachment? I really liked going through the book at COSTCO and seeing the photos of the Presidents and their wives!
BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THIS BOOK—THE LAST CHAPTER!
I did not know Martin Dugard was a liberal until he talked about President Trump. I seemed like Dugard hated Trump and Dugard stated that Trump was the worst president because Trump thought that the election was stolen from him.
Did Dugard ever think that maybe the election was stolen from Trump? Dugard, please watch “2000 Mules,” which clearly shows how the election could have been stolen from Trump! When you see videos of human mules stuffing the ballot boxes with ballots and then taking photos of their illegality, then you realize that the Biden vs Trump election could have been stolen!
Also, Biden was absent as a candidate, campaigning from his basement. How could Biden get more votes than Obama??? I doubt he could have legally.
Also, I never had good explanations of the voting machines going down at 2 am, then coming up again with Biden winning.
Why did the Democrats keep the Republican pole watchers from being able to see what was going on?
I could go on and on, but there is enough to realize that there were major problems with this election.
Also, social media kept the Hunter Biden laptop story hidden from the public—another way the election was fixed for Biden. Read the excellent book, “Laptop from Hell,” to see that there were other things that made this election have problems.
I am upset with Bill O’Reilly for letting Dugard write these poor things about Trump. I think O’Reilly should have tempered Dugard’s slanted opinions, with O’Reilly mentioning some of my explanations of these items to at least show that there may have been election tampering and so Trump had a point.
Also, I did not purchase this book by liberal author Dugard. I bought this book because Bill O’Reilly wrote it! Come on Bill, temper Dugard’s one-sided opinions! Why let Dugard’s liberal bias shine through without explaining the other side? One reading this book would think Trump is a scumbag and the worst president—this is not true by a longshot! Trump did a lot of good. Trump did somethings I did not like, but the worst president ever? Give me a break!
Now Trump is the 47th President! With early voting, Trump won in a landside! Trump got above the cheating threshold! I wonder how Dugard will write the next chapter on Trump, with O'Reilly editing it better!

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Fantastic Book on What Happens After an EMP Attack
Revisado: 10-17-24
I really, really liked this book. It was very educational on what would probably happen with an EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) attack on America. This book is a story about a family and how the EMP attack changed their lives. This book had great character development, where I came to care for the people and animals.
At first, after the EMP attack, life seemed to be just like a power outage. However, within days, people started to become like animals trying to steal food and the few older vehicles that were not affected by the EMP.
This book made me think, “Do I want to purchase food in case the USA gets hit by an EMP attack?” Yes!!! Those commercials about having food and water set aside make a lot more sense now!
I highly recommend this book. I liked how the author William R. Forstchen made me cry many times!

But everything changed when Mosab turned away from terror and violence and embraced instead the teachings of another famous Middle East leader.

Great Book on Hamas
Revisado: 08-29-24
I highly recommend this book.
This book is very well written. It is easy to listen to, and very interesting. I think it gives insight to the conflict between Hamas and Israel.
The author, Mosab Hassan Yousef, does a great job presenting both sides of the conflict. He is a man who loves his Hamas father. This book also covers some of the things Yasser Arafat did. The historical aspects of this book are also interesting.
Yousef, is a great writer and storyteller. The torcher he received in prison was horrible.
Great listen.

The War on Warriors uncovers the deep roots of our dysfunction—a society that has forgotten the men who take risks, cut through red tape, and get their hands dirty. The only kind of men prepared to face the dangers that the Left pretends don’t exist. Unlike issues of education or taxes or crime, this problem doesn’t have a zip code solution. We can’t move away from it. We can’t avoid it. We have only one Pentagon. Either we take it back or surrender it altogether.

Great Book on the Corrupted DEI Military
Revisado: 08-29-24
I highly recommend this book.
Pete uses clear language how the military is becoming woke—how the military is promoting soldiers on how they meet the DEI (Diversity Equity Inclusion) guidelines. He clearly states that if a person of color is promoted, then one doesn’t know if s/he is a good soldier or if they were promoted due to their color.
It is scary how Pete Hegseth had to leave the Army that did not want him anymore. I’m glad he and his wife could figure this out.
I heard Pete Hegseth interviewed on a Podcast and I liked what he was saying about his new book. I never heard of him until this interview. I really liked Pete and his book.
Great listen. Pete Hegseth did a fantastic job reading his own book. He could easily be a books on tape narrator.

Great Book on How Biden Is Worse than Carter!
Revisado: 08-29-24
President Carter used to be ranked as the worse President in the last 50 years. However, President Biden is worse! Carter at least loved the country and wanted to make or keep the USA as the best world power. However, Biden wants to turn the USA under world power dominance, such as NATO.
I recommend this book. I liked how the author Kimberley Strassel and Stephanie Richardson read this book.
Also, I really liked how Strassel covered other relevant political things not dealing directly with Biden, but the Democrat party. Very good!
Overall comments?
Biden screwed things up. Will People vote for Vice-President Kamala Harris to screw up the USA even worse than Biden? Most probably, if she gets elected as President!
Problems. Strassel got the facts about George Floyd’s death incorrect.
Police Officer Derek Chauvin did NOT kneel on George Floyd’s neck and choke George to death! George Floyd died of Fentanyl and other drugs in his system. George said, “I can’t breathe!” before Chauvin put his knee on Floyd’s Shoulder and back area (per police protocol).
Strassel and her editors need to read: ” They're Lying: The Media, the Left, and the Death of George Floyd” by Liz Collin. It is so sad that Strassel is so smart and wrote a great book and got this fact incorrect!
I still recommend the book!

If you don’t understand communist revolutions, you aren’t ready for what’s coming. The old rules are over. The old order is over. Accusations are evidence. Activism means bigotry and hate. Criminals are allowed to roam free. Citizens are locked up. An appetite for vengeance is unleashed—to deplatform, debank, destroy. This is the daily news, yet none of it’s new. Patterns from the past make sense of our present. They also foretell a terrifying future we might be condemned to endure.

Revisado: 08-29-24
I highly recommend this book.
Jack Posobiec and Joshua Lisec write a very interesting book about how the Communists took over and destroyed countries throughout history.
I really liked how he explained that Communists have infiltrated America. For instance, Communists hate landlords and now America hates landlords.
I also liked how the authors explain different Communist take-overs in history, such as:
- Pol Pot who murdered countless people in Cambodia.
- The Communist Sandinistas in Nicaragua who destroyed the country, kicking out the anti-Communist leader.

Great & Funny Book on Organizing & Downsizing!
Revisado: 08-29-24
Highly recommended! This book is funny while being helpful.
Like me, I’m sure you have friends or family who need to tidy the f*ck up, so this book is worth reading for them! And me! It gave a lot of good ideas and was fun to listen to! I read more of these books than I follow—I’d rather hike or see friends than downsize. However, I did like it better when I was organized and I could find everything immediately!
Overall comments?
Helpful hints on how to clean-up, organize, and downsize while laughing. Even if you get a few good hints, I think that will be helpful for you overall.
Disagreements? Yes. On pens. She says to keep one favorite pen. Luckily, Costco sells my favorite pens and Sharpies by the dozen! I am absolutely amazed how these pens disappear! Why do I keep having to open the box and pulling out new ones? I am baffled that I cannot find the old ones. Keep all 12, these pens and markers will eventually disappear! You will need them and you don’t want to look everywhere through your tidy house to find them!
