Historia
Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease.

A Dark Outlook that is needed
Revisado: 10-28-21
This book deals in a darker view of the world and the strategies it outlines are dark and deceitful. I found this book at a point in my life where I am struggling to deal with a number of corrupt people. At the very least it has given me a look at the man behind the curtain. I would like to think that I would only resort to the types of deceitful tactics outlined here under dire consequences, but there comes a point that understanding how power operates may position me to respond accordingly.
The work itself is well done and well performed. If you are the sort that has worked for years to find ways to behave in an honorable fashion, this work will certainly have some shocking elements. But in the end, knowledge itself is power. So even if you would like to believe that you would never resort to deceitful tactics, it will give you the understanding to spot when those tactics are being used against you.
Knowing the strategy of the enemy has immense value.

Historia
Ordinary Men is the true story of Reserve Police Battalion 101 of the German Order Police, which was responsible for mass shootings as well as round-ups of Jewish people for deportation to Nazi death camps in Poland in 1942. Browning argues that most of the men of RPB 101 were not fanatical Nazis but, rather, ordinary middle-aged, working-class men who committed these atrocities out of a mixture of motives, including the group dynamics of conformity, deference to authority, role adaptation, and the altering of moral norms to justify their actions.

Blood in the water
Revisado: 07-19-21
If you have heard that sharks will go into a frenzy when they smell blood in the water; this is the human equivalent. There are undoubtedly countless motivating factors that spurred on the events of WWII the chilling fact that so many ordinary people participated and turned a blind eye in the wake of what transpired is what more people need to understand...this is a starting point for that conversation.

In the military, a field manual provides instructions in simple, clear, step-by-step language to help soldiers complete their mission. In the civilian sector, books offer information on everything from fixing a leaky faucet to developing an effective workout program to cooking a good steak. Leadership Strategy and Tactics explains how to take leadership theory, quickly translate that theory into applicable strategy, and then put leadership into action at a tactical level. This audiobook is the solution that leaders at every level need.

Difficult boss and more
Revisado: 05-03-21
I had previously listened to Jocko's other works. I recently started working for a new company and could tell my new boss was cut from a different cloth. I was coming from a much larger corporation with more stringent systems in place. My new organization was much smaller and less disciplined. Knowing this, I wanted to plan ahead and make the transition smooth.
Practically, chapter by chapter week by week the exact scenario unfolded. Leading up the chain of command and keeping ego in check were paramount. I am a month and a half in and it is proving to be effective.
I like the practical application this book offers.

As the rabbits skirt danger at every turn, we become acquainted with the band, its humorous characters, and its compelling culture, complete with its own folk history and mythos. Fiver’s vision finally leads them to Watership Down, an upland meadow. But here they face their most difficult challenges of all.

I was first shown the old cartoon of this in the 1990's by my grandmother. I had seen the Netflix adaptation more recently, but this tops both.
The lessons taught through this story are clearly a product of their times, yet they clearly hold value currently.

Discredited in the final act
Revisado: 02-19-21
I have never read or listen to an author discredit their own work in the final chapter of a book as hard as this. I find the belief that pedophiles would honestly report their own good behavior truthfully to be so laughably discusting I can't stand it.
The fact that one of the pedophiles goes on to work to help "parents and law enforcement prevent children from being victims" so narrowly minded. Are they there to help...or to find new prey? I challenge the notion of putting a fox in with the chickens. The author's data points are suspect to say the least.

Historia
Just a century after it had begun, philosophy entered its greatest age with the appearance of Socrates, who spent so much of his time talking about philosophy on the streets of Athens that he never got around to writing anything down. His method of aggressive questioning, called dialectic, was the forerunner of logic; he used it to cut through the twaddle of his adversaries and arrive at the truth. Rather than questioning the world, he believed, we would be better off questioning ourselves.

Historia
The last works completed before Nietzsche's final years of insanity, Twilight of the Idols and The Antichrist contain some of his most passionate and polemical writing. Both display his profound understanding of human nature and continue themes developed in The Genealogy of Morals, as the philosopher lashes out at the deceptiveness of modern culture and morality. Twilight of the Idols attacks European society, Christianity, and the works of Socrates and Plato; The Antichrist explores the history, psychology, and moral precepts of Christianity.

A misguided fool
Revisado: 03-27-20
If you firmly believe women are less than house cats, this is the book for you! There are so many points that could be used to highlight the stupidity in his message, but the easiest is that he believed public bathhouses to be the pinnacle of humanity and that women are worthless. And no amount of eloquent words would fool me into buying his message. (Even him saying that if you don't agree, then you are ignorant)
He has a few good points, but in the words of my grandfather, "Even a blind squirrel can find an acorn every once in a while."
I now feel I need to print a retraction for every paper I ever wrote with a quote from him in it.

Historia
A group of old school friends meet to catch up. They end up discussing the unexpected, unforeseen changes to their lives, and one friend offers to tell a story about adapting to change. The story he tells involves four characters, two mice named Sniff and Scurry, and two "Littlepeople" named Hem and Haw. All of them are in a maze, looking for cheese, which they need to survive. For the "Littlepeople", cheese also has a larger, metaphysical connotation in the sense that it also makes them happy - their Cheese is thus spelled with a capital C....
