Historia
Set in the vibrant fourteenth century of Chaucer and the Black Death, the story features knights fighting in battle, serfs struggling in poverty, and the magnificent Plantagenets—Edward III, the Black Prince, and Richard II—who rule despotically over a court rotten with intrigue. Within this era of danger and romance, John of Gaunt, the king’s son, falls passionately in love with the already-married Katherine. Their affair persists through decades of war, adultery, murder, loneliness, and redemption.

Beware of Formula Romance in Disguise
Revisado: 02-09-25
Too much trite formula romance, hate each other love each other cross purposes, finally together facing the resistance together. Yawn.

Good story, weird narration
Revisado: 11-07-24
The story is good and original, Could have done without the attempted accents. Personally, I like it much better when they just read the story instead of trying to do Humphrey Bogart.

Narration is clownish
Revisado: 06-25-24
Always good stories about Falco, but this narration was hard to listen to. It's cartoonish and way over the top. I'll power through and be happy that they went back to Simon Prebble.

Narrator gasps
Revisado: 02-16-24
It's a really good story, like Chadwick's usual quality, but the constant gasping before each sentence is really annoying and you have to concentrate on ignoring it. GASP statement, GASP statement, GASP statement, GASP statement...

Tedious
Revisado: 01-18-24
I sped up the play speed and skipped a lot. The "musical interludes" were weird and random and didn't fit and left me wondering if they could take them out. I love King's books. the Stand is one of my top 10 and so many of the others he's written and so fantastic This is the only one I would recommend skipping all together.

Without a single clue, Chee and Leaphorn must follow a serpentine trail through the Indian clans and nations, seeking the thread that links two brutal murders, a missing teenager, a band of lobbyists trying to put a toxic dump site on Pueblo land, and an invaluable memento given to the tribes.

I wish her women weren't such babies. The sculptress is supposed to be strong and independent but she screams and falls down and generally gets in the way and that's annoying and distracting and unrealistic.

Historia
It’s 1932, a time of crisis and doubt. Returning home on a luxury ocean liner after months abroad, Rowland Sinclair and his companions dine with a suffragette, a Bishop and a retired World Prophet. The Church encounters less orthodox religion in the Aquitania’s chandeliered ballroom, where men of God rub shoulders with mystics in dinner suits. The elegant atmosphere on board is charged with tension, but civility prevails...until people start to die.

Annoying American accents and dialog.
Revisado: 08-25-22
It's a good story, but I hate when an English writer sets a story in the early 20th century and packs the American dialog with ridiculous slang. Slang was popular but not every word in a sentence, and they did not all sound like James Cagney.

Historia
Sharply observant and wickedly funny, E.F. Benson's six Mapp and Lucia novels satirize the upper-middle-class social climbers in 1920s and '30s rural England. Games of bridge and cups of tea fuel hilarious gossip and vindictive plots a-plenty. It is a masterfully sustained spotlight on the minutiae of village life - a clever and ultimately heart-warming series that seems tailor-made for audio. Volume 1 contains the first three books.

Vicious liars
Revisado: 03-12-21
There were times when I laughed out loud, but there were more times when I had to make myself finish it because those women are such vicious, self-absorbed, narcissistic, liars. Most of the people they squashed didn't deserve it.
Nope, they are too awful and I won't do the 2nd volume.

Revisado: 07-04-19
This was a really fun read, but they're all good.
I am starting #19 and REALLY want to know WHERE the rest of the audio books in the series are or if they will be done!
Engaging and exciting, I do love this series.
