Another Heartwarming Story from One of My Favorite Authors.

It took a long while for me to get used to the cadence of the narrator's reading, but she did well with the different characters' voices. I really enjoyed the story.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Helped me gain insight and understanding
Revisado: 07-10-24
This book seemed very long but covered so many different types and causes of trauma. It was well worth reading. I do think it might have been better for me to have had a print edition for note taking etc. Would like to see more programs available using the methods of therapy described rather than so many that use mostly drugs.

Historia
In 1985, Anthony Ray Hinton was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in Alabama. Stunned, confused, and only 29 years old, Hinton knew that it was a case of mistaken identity and believed that the truth would prove his innocence and ultimately set him free. But with an incompetent defense attorney and a different system of justice for a poor black man in the South, Hinton was sentenced to death by electrocution. He spent his first three years on Death Row at Holman State Prison in despairing silence.

Keep Tissues Close By
Revisado: 03-11-23
This story moved me to tears, anger at the injustice and caused me to pray for those in similar circumstances. Parts were horrible to imagine. Parts of it brought words of praise to God. I am thankful to have read Ray’s story Thanks be to God for Brian’s determination and for the grace that’s in this book.
