Historia
Over the past two decades, Antony Beevor has established himself as one of the world's premier historians of World War II. His multi-award winning books have included Stalingrad and The Fall of Berlin 1945. Now, in his newest and most ambitious book, he turns his focus to one of the bloodiest and most tragic events of the twentieth century, The Second World War. Thrillingly written and brilliantly researched, Beevor's provocative account is destined to become the definitive work on World War II.

Excellent flow of chapters

I liked the story . Russian section should have had more info on the impact of lend lease and Ultra to the success of the Soviets.,without that help it would have been a stalemate on Russian soil. The biggest issue for Beevor is using Stalin casualty figures for both military and civilian. These are bogus figures that historians use in publications . The true number also confirmed by Russian historians is less civilians and more combat . The Russians lost close to 20m+ and overall over 30m. If Beevor had just added up the losses from each battle plus deaths in hospitals he would have seen that. He is not the only historians to do this as it started much earlier. These numbers have been debunked. Casualty ratio through out war was 5:1. Stalin said was he lost 4m pows and 4m+ in combat . No way. He shifted his losses over to civilians . Beevor should have stated a range of casualties to make himself feel good. Otherwise a very good book and good reader. Thanks HjM

Historia
After the failure of the Weimar Republic, the Nazis believed their mission was to "masculinize" life in Germany. Hermann Goering told women, "Take a pot, a dustpan and a broom, and marry a man", but many still became active participants in murder and mayhem. From the Reich Bride Schools through the Bund Deutscher Mädel and the bizarre Lebensborn Aryan breeding programme to the brothels of the Sicherheitsdienst, this book covers the lives of women in the Third Reich, concentrating on those who sought personal power and influence amid the chaos.

An extraordinary mythology has grown up around the Third Reich that hovers over political and moral debate even today. Adam Tooze's controversial book challenges the conventional economic interpretations of that period.

Book is good but contains bias
Revisado: 01-29-24
Good book discussing the economics of the Nazi s and their disorganization. The author is overly very pro Russian and does not really credit British intelligence as a factor in Russians success nor does he credit US lend lease other than vehicles. The US provided food, clothing , meds vehicles steel tubes, plating , machine tools, communication equipment, chemicals diesel aviation fuel and so much supply including razors. The US tax payer fed armed and clothed the red army from late 1942 to 45. The author basically says the Russians did it on their own. In terms of losses that is true. Major oversight and short coming of the book. He covered the Germans well. The book needs to be revised . Otherwise a very informative book for history buffs. Thanks

Historia
To the Soviet Union, the sacrifices that enabled the country to defeat Nazi Germany in World War II were sacrosanct. The foundation of the Soviets’ hard-won victory was laid during the battle for the city of Stalingrad, resting on the banks of the Volga River. To Russians, it is a pivotal landmark of their nation’s losses, with more than two million civilians and combatants either killed, wounded, or captured during the bitter fighting from September 1942 to February 1943. Both sides endured terrible conditions in brutal, relentless house-to-house fighting.

Poor Reader
Revisado: 01-27-23
The reader for this book is not suited for this story . The cadence and speech pattern was the worst I have heard since I used Audible. The perfect reader makes the story on these type of books. Very disappointed . Thanks
