Historia
The next book in the perennially adored No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series sees Precious Ramotswe calling upon all her maternal instincts when she's faced with a two-ton case. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but can Mma. Ramotswe and the rest of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency come together to raise a pipsqueak pachyderm? We may find out in this novel. We may not. Who can say?

The narrator
Revisado: 11-27-20
When reading the characters’ dialog, her voice was annoying. Squeakily, overdone, and unrealistic. I have loved Lisette Lecat’s narrations for so many years and don’t enjoy the books nearly as much without her. Please ask her to return! For a next book, tell the story of Charlie running the agency while the ladies are gone, the ladies’ misadventures on the way home, and then Charlie going up to see the elephant!

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

What a disappointment! I kept on listening hoping for a better story, but the plot was uninteresting, the characters unsympathetic, and the writing uninspired.

In this compelling memoir, Jane Hawking relates the inside story of her extraordinary marriage. As Stephen's academic renown soared, his body was collapsing under the assaults of motor neurone disease, and Jane's candid account of trying to balance his 24-hour care with the needs of their growing family is inspirational. Nineteen-year-old Nayeli works at a taco shop in her Mexican village and dreams about her father, who left the family to work in the United States. Recently, it has dawned on her that he isn't the only man who has left town. In fact, there are almost no men in the village - they've all gone north. While watching The Magnificent Seven, Nayeli decides to go north herself and recruit seven men - her own "Siete Magnificos"---to repopulate her hometown and protect it from the bandidos who plan on taking it over.

Good story; reader could be better
Revisado: 05-03-15
An engaging though ambitious story, perhaps trying to do too much in one novel. He's a good writer, though. The reader had very poor Spanish pronunciation; it would have been better if it had been read by fine one with a more native accent. Such as the author himself.

Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. Reader ruins what might be a good story
Revisado: 10-23-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
No Grisham fan would enjoy this rendition. His usual reader was great and represeted the voice of the south; this is soulless, empty, and most Importantly, non exciting! Change the reader! Pick a male or or female, but be sure he is earnest and experienced in this genre.

Historia
English anthropologist Andrew Bankson has been alone in the field for several years, studying the Kiona river tribe in the territory of New Guinea. Haunted by the memory of his brothers' deaths and increasingly frustrated and isolated by his research, Bankson is on the verge of suicide when a chance encounter with colleagues, the controversial Nell Stone and her wry and mercurial Australian husband, Fen, pulls him back from the brink. Nell and Fen have just fled the bloodthirsty Mumbanyo and, in spite of Nell's poor health, are hungry for a new discovery.

Great story, one poor reader, one good one
Revisado: 06-19-14
Would you try another book from Lily King and/or Simon Vance and Xe Sands ?
By Lily King and Xe Sands, yes! But Simon Vance-/ a very prolific audible reader -- is pedantic, boring and supercilious. I will not listen to a book read by him again. He sounds like an ex Shakesperian actor who thinks he sounds great, but us really really boring! He makes me zone out. Luckily Xe Sands was great and so I was able to finish an excellent story.
What other book might you compare Euphoria to and why?
State of Wonder-- similar anthropological bent and riveting details about other cultures, with interesting characters.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Simon Vance and Xe Sands ?
Xe Sands was great. Anyone would have been better than Simon Vance for this listener.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes.
