Worth the read!

I have a very specific type of genre that I cling to, and this is not really in it. I was skeptical at first, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. It is well written, beautifully performed, and hard to stop listening to.

Historia
Emmeline lives on a remote island with her father, who teaches her about the natural world through her senses. What he won’t explain are the mysterious scents stored in glass bottles that line the walls of their cabin, or the origin of the machine that creates them. As Emmeline grows, however, so too does her curiosity, until one day the unforeseen happens, and Emmeline is vaulted out into the real world—a place of love, betrayal, ambition, and revenge. To understand her past, Emmeline must unlock the clues to her identity.

Historia
Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.

Good...ish
Revisado: 04-08-19
The first half of the book is difficult to get through. It details the perspective of a woman who has clearly been emotionally and physically abused for years, and it is hard to read. Keep going, though. The twisty ending is worth the heartache is takes to get there. Not that the ending is bed of roses, but I never saw it coming.

Not at all what I expected, and so much better
Revisado: 02-09-19
To be honest, I had no idea what this book was about when I started it. The first couple of chapters reeled me in, and then I couldn't put it down. The story is original, and not. The prose is wonderful, and not. The characters are real, and not.

Unexpected Plot
Revisado: 02-06-19
This book is very different from other Liane Moriarty books. While it explores the intricacies of family dynamics as many if her books do, it is done in a completely new way. I really enjoyed the story and the ending me think, but it starts out much slower than I would have preferred.
If you can make it about half way through, you won't be able to put it down.

A look at other people's lives...
Revisado: 08-17-18
This was a fun read, but when I finished it, I found myself wondering what the point was. I guess, at the end of the day, it was a glimpse into the lives of characters who seemed so real I felt like I knew them! No complicated plot twists, just well described characters living their lives.
