Historia
Cat McCarthy has spent years extricating herself from the family business—an increasingly run-down theater camp—and all the drama contained within it. At thirty-seven, she’s putting the final touches on a new life as she renovates her dream cottage and awaits her first child. Does it worry her that the McCarthy legacy is in the hands of her disastrously irresponsible sister, Ginger? Sure. But the camp’s not Cat’s problem anymore.

This Book Took my Emotions on a Journey!!!
Revisado: 09-06-24
This book had me hooked.
In the first half of the book, Ginger stressed me out completely and I wanted to shake just about everyone else.
But I started having fun and laughing out loud in the 2nd half.
If you find yourself frustrated at the start of the book, give it some time. You may be surprised.
The story was engaging. The characters were fun (when I didn’t wanna give them a stern talking to). While I wished there was more ethnic diversity among the characters, I really appreciated the attention to neurodiversity and how thoughtful the author was about discussing disabilities.
My only real warning is about the narration. I’m a fan of Andi Arndt. Her actual narration is great. But this recording has quite a bit of mouth sounds and some background noise. It was almost like it wasn’t edited well. Prepare yourself for that.

Historia
The first time Aja Owens encounters the man of her dreams, she’s having a panic attack in the frozen foods section of the Piggly Wiggly. The second time, he’s being introduced to her as her favorite bingo buddy’s semi-estranged grandson. From there, all it takes is one game for her to realize that he’s definitely going to be a problem. And if there’s anything she already has a surplus of, it’s problems.

Good Story, Narration Could Be Better
Revisado: 08-18-22
I enjoyed this book. I liked the focus on mental health for both of the main characters. The conversations around mental health were thoughtful and respectful. I also liked the presence of diversity in the characters. Issues of race were touched on accurately, but weren’t the main focus of the story. I could have used more of that, but wasn’t disappointed.
But, I didn’t enjoy the narration. I realized right away that the pace the narrator used was too slow for my taste. So, I sped it up for the whole book. I also thought the narrator could have done a better job of distinguishing the voices of the different characters. At times it was hard to know who was speaking. The male and female characters sounded mostly the same as did the older and younger characters. That was distracting enough that I may avoid audio books with this narrator going forward and opt to read the e-books instead.
But, if you can look past that, I think you’ll enjoy the book.
