Historia
This version of the Bennet family - and Mr. Darcy - is one that you have and haven't met before: Liz is a magazine writer in her late 30s who, like her yoga instructor older sister, Jane, lives in New York City. When their father has a health scare, they return to their childhood home in Cincinnati to help - and discover that the sprawling Tudor they grew up in is crumbling, and the family is in disarray.

Was very interested in the premise of this one!
Revisado: 04-07-25
I kept anticipating that the story, the dialog, or something would just get better at some point. It did not. The characters, all of them, were just generally unlikable, the story was s l o w, and often just absurd.

Slow…
Revisado: 03-05-25
This was a story that just couldn’t seem to get out of its own way. Very slow moving, redundant, with too many characters that did not actually bring much interest or intrigue to the plot. I kept waiting… hoping that the book would pick up speed, get more interesting etc… Unfortunately, neither happened.

Historia
After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty. Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Action-packed fantasy with an interesting storyline. If you’re drawn to dragon-lore, this one is for you! Narration is rough.

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

For me a good book is one that you don’t want to end!
Revisado: 09-22-24
I absolutely loved the characters in this book! At times, the subject matter was really quite dark. At the same time this book was also laugh out loud funny. The narration was really excellent. I don’t think I have listened to this narrator before, but she was so engaging and brought the characters to life infusing them with so much personality throughout the performance. As the book moved toward the last chapter, I found myself wishing for more time with these characters. I think that’s really a mark of a good book… when you just don’t want it to end…

Historia
Amber Patterson Parrish has come a long way from being an invisible wallflower. Her hard work and immaculate planning have paid off now that she’s a prominent socialite, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been bumps along the way. Less than a year since her husband Jackson’s tax-evasion scandal, Amber is still at the top of the Bishops Harbor community pecking order, free to do as she wishes while Jackson sits in prison. But that freedom is quickly coming to an end. With Jackson getting released from prison, Amber’s time—and money—is vanishing.

Very Predictable!
Revisado: 07-21-24
I fast-forwarded through most of this book finding it essentially rehash of the first. DaisyAnn was really the only like-able character; however she was almost a cartoon in the stereotyping. Story was so predictable.

The story piqued my interest but seemed like it was a first draft and not completely developed. Unfortunately the narration was definitely below average. The narrator’s voice was grating and did not morph into the various characters

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.
