Historia
Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic “Politics and the English Language,” but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities. In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind.

Egotistical rant
Revisado: 10-12-24
It’s hard to like this dreary self centered book. An hour into it I fail to get the message.

Historia
In Aspen, Colorado, in 1941, Rachel Brewster is a slalom skier at the National Downhill and Slalom Championships. Little Ray, as she is called, finishes nowhere near the podium, but she manages to get pregnant. Back home, in New England, Little Ray becomes a ski instructor. Her son, Adam, grows up in a family that defies conventions and evades questions concerning the eventful past. Years later, looking for answers, he will go to Aspen. In the Hotel Jerome, where he was conceived, Adam will meet some ghosts; in The Last Chairlift, they aren’t the first or last ghosts he sees.

Why doesn’t Audible promote John Irving?
- De Ken en 10-21-22
I’ve read and loved John Irving BUT
Revisado: 01-09-23
This was a disappointment and I regret even spending money on it. It’s not really a novel, more a self serving, rambling, narcissistic introspective. If I want to be depressed, I can always read the NYTIMES.

Historia
The Real Anthony Fauci details how Fauci, Gates, and their cohorts use their control of media outlets, scientific journals, key government and quasi-governmental agencies, global intelligence agencies, and influential scientists and physicians to flood the public with fearful propaganda about COVID-19 virulence and pathogenesis, and to muzzle debate and ruthlessly censor dissent.

Waste of time and money
Revisado: 02-01-22
No fan of Dr Fauci’s handling of the pandemic, but this is pure vitriol. The narration is tedious. There are way too many, 27, hours of statistics. I checked out after two. RFK clearly capitalized on the family name for no reason other than to express his dislike for Fauci, Bill Gates and big pharma.

Engaging story. Terrible narration
Revisado: 02-07-21
While the plot was predictable. the characters were well drawn and believable. It was a relaxing listen.
Being a Mainer I found the attempts at Maine accents awful. Very distracting. The other voice changes were pretty bad

Historia
Since the turn of the century, a generation has come of age knowing only war, recession, political gridlock, racial hostility, and a simmering fear of environmental calamity. In the country’s forgotten pockets, where industry long ago fled, where foreclosures, Walmarts, and opiates riddle the land, death rates for rural whites have skyrocketed, fueled by suicide, addiction, and a rampant sense of marginalization and disillusionment. This is the world the characters in Stephen Markley’s brilliant debut novel, Ohio, inherit. This is New Canaan.

Tedious

Overly descriptive adolescent fantasies and experiences. Tiring to listen to and no story. Kept waiting for a story.
