Historia
Blythe Connor is determined that she will be the warm, comforting mother to her new baby Violet that she herself never had. But in the thick of motherhood's exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter - she doesn't behave like most children do. Or is it all in Blythe's head? Her husband, Fox, says she's imagining things. The more Fox dismisses her fears, the more Blythe begins to question her own sanity, and the more we begin to question what Blythe is telling us about her life as well.

Best book I’ve read in forever
Revisado: 01-23-23
I read a lot, about a book a week. I rarely find one that actually surprises me. It is true suspense. You really don’t know who to believe, I couldn’t put it down. The story and narrator were amazing.

Historia
In January 2012, having covered a Somali pirate trial in Hamburg for Spiegel Online International, Michael Scott Moore traveled to the Horn of Africa to write about piracy and ways to end it. In a terrible twist of fate, Moore himself was kidnapped and subsequently held captive by Somali pirates for 977 days. Yet Moore’s own struggle is only part of the story: The Desert and the Sea falls at the intersection of reportage, memoir, and history.

Could not put this down

I’m still not sure whether or not it’s true but it doesn’t really matter it writes as if it is. The narrator/writer does such a great job. This is the best book I read in a while.

Historia
Ari has spent all of high school burying who he really is, staying silent and invisible. He expected his senior year to be the same. But something in him cracked open when he fell in love with Dante, and he can’t go back. Suddenly he finds himself reaching out to new friends, standing up to bullies of all kinds, and making his voice heard. And, always, there is Dante, dreamy, witty Dante, who can get on Ari’s nerves and fill him with desire all at once. The boys are determined to forge a path for themselves in a world that doesn’t understand them.

Awful
Revisado: 11-03-22
I can’t continue this book. I’ve read or listened to more than half and I still cannot figure out what the plot is. Is just a young couple having conversations. Magically all of the family is very supportive of their same sex relationship and encourages them to be happy. I was a young gay girl coming out in the 80’s with liberal parents and I promise you not any of my friends or myself had any thing that even slightly resembles this. It’s just not realistic and it’s totally boring!!!

Syed has maintained his innocence, and Rabia Chaudry, a family friend, has always believed him. By 2013, after almost all appeals had been exhausted, Rabia contacted Sarah Koenig, a producer at This American Life, in hopes of finding a journalist who could shed light on Adnan’s story. In 2014, Koenig's investigation turned into Serial, a Peabody Award-winning podcast with more than 500 million international listeners.

Historia
Growing up in the friendly suburbs of Richmond, Virginia, Constance Wu was often scolded for having big feelings or strong reactions. “Good girls don’t make scenes,” people warned her. And while she spent most of her childhood suppressing her bold, emotional nature, she found an early outlet in local community theater—it was the one place where big feelings were okay—were good, even. Acting became her refuge, her touchstone, and eventually her vocation.

A book everyone should read
Revisado: 09-26-22
I think if everyone read this book we would have more people understand that all of us are people. We are all humans and we all just want better for ourselves, our families, and the case of this book even strangers. Immigrants are so often dehumanized and I just don’t know how you could do that after reading this book. I laughed I cried, it was suspenseful, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Historia
When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

This book really help me understand why Putin really killed and continues to kills so many of his own people and anyone else who doesn’t agree with him. It’s all about the money, and if you can follow the trail you can often figure out the rest.

Historia
In the 70s and 80s, thousands of Hmong families made the journey from the war-torn jungles of Laos to the overcrowded refugee camps of Thailand and onward to the United States, all in search of a new place to call home. Decades later, their experiences remain largely unknown. Kao Kalia Yang was driven to tell her own family's story after her grandmother’s death. The Latehomecomer is a tribute to that grandmother, a remarkable woman whose spirit held her family together.

I loved it but didn’t like her voice
Revisado: 03-18-22
I couldn’t put the book down once I got past the beginning and used to her voice. I don’t know why it bothered me . It sounded like little girl kind of whining at me. The beginning is also a little slow just got through the first couple chapters and it starts really getting good. She does a great job of really developing all her characters and it also was very informative about the whole mouth
