Historia
I'm your typical small-town loser stuck in a dead-end job. Single, because dating is for well-adjusted human beings, not traumatized gay boys with trust issues. All I want is to leave my past behind and finally start living. My wish comes true in the most bizarre way imaginable. One evening, a beautiful man with pointy ears and flowing dark locks appears out of nowhere. He proclaims I am to be his 'Dark Companion' based on some stupid deal I made in a dream. Oh, and apparently he's an elven prince, the Lord of Shadows, Protector of the Nightmare Realm, and Knight of Grief Ocean.

Very good story with good narrators.

I really enjoy the story and the narration, except that the man who narrates Luke's chapters says "against" like "uh-gain-st." So annoying.

Historia
It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute. The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low.

Great story, not so great narrator.
Revisado: 12-15-22
I've been hesitant about reading this book, but I've really enjoyed it! The story is fantastic, the characters are well thought out and deep, and the pacing is on point.
However, the narrator is just so-so. He's pretty monotone, the variation on his voices is very slight, and he speaks all the singing parts (there are a lot of them) and it comes off as jarring and horrible. He does have a fairly pleasant voice, but he wasn't very good overall.

Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother's web in an attempt to maintain control over his country - and his prisoner. As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows.

Fantastic Story but...
Revisado: 07-12-22
Amanda Dolan is amazing. Her portrayal of Mare is immaculate. I wish she'd done the entire book, honestly. The person voicing Cameron is god-awful. Instead of sounding like a voice actress trying to entertain, she reads in a bored voice like a mother trying to get her children to fall asleep. She pronounces names and places differently than Dolan and doesn't do any accent. Flat, boring, horrible.
As for the story, I think it's amazing! Yes, we spend a lot of time with Mare trapped with Maven, but how is that boring?

In a good way, I hated it...
Revisado: 04-01-22
This book tells a tale that is certainly not for the faint of heart or the squeamish in stature. Harsh topics of possible reality are explored. I had heard that this book was a dystopian society of legalized cannibalism. While that is true, much more is involved. I do not regret reading this book, but I also wish I'd never read it...

Horrible Narration
Revisado: 12-25-21
I don't know why so many people like Tatiana's narration. I've listened to Carolyn McCormick's version several times and it's far superior. Tatiana is so monotone and she uses the same voices for so many characters. It's such a flat performance and I've been miserable, trying to listen through enough of it to leave this rating. I'm so glad I own the other version of each book so I can relisten to them with a narrator that actual has emotion in her voice.

This title had promise, but the narrator is so bad. I made it to chapter 3 before I gave up. I might buy the actual hook (if it exists) and read it.
