Historia
Ava Simon designs storage boxes for STÄDA, a slick Brooklyn-based furniture company. She’s hard-working, obsessive, and heartbroken from a tragedy that killed her girlfriend and upended her life. It’s been years since she’s let anyone in. But when Ava’s new boss—the young and magnetic Mat Putnam—offers Ava a ride home one afternoon, an unlikely relationship blossoms. Ava remembers how rewarding it can be to open up—and, despite her instincts, she becomes enamored. But Mat isn’t who he claims to be, and the romance takes a sharp turn.

Thought-provoking but way too long
Revisado: 03-27-22
Author is grinding an ax at several issues--corporate greed, self-help programs, ways companies try to build loyalty, grief.... If she had concentrated on one or two, perhaps keeping the focus on the workplace, the story would have been tighter and more powerful.

Through even the joyous and innocent memories, the pain of Davies' lifelong grief and profound betrayal is unfiltered, searing and beautifully articulated. Just Ignore Him is not only an autobiography, it is a testament to a survivor's resilience and courage.

Achingly beautiful and insightful
Revisado: 09-30-21
This story will resonate with anyone fortunate enough to read it, but noone more so than the person who has suffered trauma at the hands of a trusted adult while growing up. The openness and unquestionable honesty of this recounting are both unbearingly sad and unexpectedly healing. The sheer beauty of the writing in various passages throughout the book transforms this from memoir to literature, with sentences to be remembered and appreciated long after the book is finished. Although, I have a feeling one reading or one listen only will not suffice

Cheerful & digestible natural interactions primer
Revisado: 10-25-20
Narration adds much to a clear explanation of the interactions between plants and insects. Inspiring for backyard gardeners wanting to work more intentionally to restore natural habitat.

Compassion and Cynicism
Revisado: 10-18-20
The second offering in the Lake mysteries featuring DC Smith provides more of DC's back story and consistent and deepening character development. Tackles subject of aging from many perspectives, including work, family and personal mental and physical loss. Deadpan narration is an essential element of the story's audio appeal.

Historia
The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Memorable and sweet
Revisado: 10-15-20
A different type of storytelling for a police procedural. Because one of the main characters is a rookie, explanations and details about the steps taken in an investigation are included, but in a way that draws in the reader as though we are learning along with him.

Don't be discouraged by hype
Revisado: 10-02-20
Best in the series. As usual, complex characters and entertaining interactions between Robin and Strike. Theme throughout is managing loss of loved ones. It is a bit hard to keep track of all the characters if listening vs reading. should have made myself a cast of characters. References to cross dressing are few, vague, and entirely non-judgmental. Don't let the mistaken emphasis on that cause you to miss a very good book.

Historia
In Why We’re Polarized, Klein reveals the structural and psychological forces behind America’s descent into division and dysfunction. Neither a polemic nor a lament, this book offers a clear framework for understanding everything from Trump’s rise to the Democratic Party’s leftward shift to the politicization of everyday culture. America is polarized, first and foremost, by identity. Everyone engaged in American politics is engaged, at some level, in identity politics.

Common sense interpretations of current political situation. Author successfully builds his argument layer by layer, so his conclusions at the end seem obvious.

Great story but odd voicings from narrator.
Revisado: 02-24-20
Narrator gave certain female characters very high pitched, almost babyish voices, which was very distracting. There's no need to try to come up with unique voices for everyone.
