Historia
When the body of a woman is discovered in a local park - with her bewildered four-year-old son sitting beside her - veteran social worker Ellen Moore is called in to assist in the police investigation. Positioned beneath a statue of Leto, the goddess of motherhood, the crime is weighted with meaning and, Ellen discovers, remarkably similar to one from a decade past. Ellen's professional duty is to protect the child, but she's not equipped to contend with a killer. As she races to connect the dots, she knows her time is running out.

Horrible narrator. Good short story.
Revisado: 03-30-24
This narrator is the worst. She’s robotic and overly emotional. Every time a sentence has the word “to” in it, she sounds like a robot from the 1950s reading it.

Veteran social worker Ellen Moore has seen the worst side of humanity - the vilest acts one person can commit against another. But one blistering summer day, a simple moment of distraction will have repercussions that Ellen could never have imagined.

The narrator for Ellen is AWFUL
Revisado: 03-29-24
It was a good story… Not typical of this author, but very good. The narrator for Ellen’s part was the worst narrator I’ve ever heard. I’m pretty sure that she’s a robot. She’s at once robotic and overly emotive. If the narrator hadn’t been good, I wouldn’t have finished this book. The truth is the narrator, for Ellen, completely ruined this book.

Historia

Only she knows it is Liz who has gone missing, presumed dead.

Excellent book!!! I’m so happy I took a chance on it. Loved the ending. Wish the other women weren’t such butches, but that’s true to life in these situations

So boring I’m not finishing it
Revisado: 03-10-24
The first 2 chapters were promising, but the next few were so painfully boring that I’m not finishing it. Normally I force myself to finish any book I start, but not this time. Life is too short.

I love this series, but…
Revisado: 12-09-23
This book is so boring I can’t finish it. I’m 5 hours in and they’re exactly where they were at the end of book 2 and making plans to do something eventually (I’m guessing in book 4) and having some sex, but these aren’t the best spicy scenes I’ve read. I’m so bored. I’m thinking this should have been a trilogy. I LOVED book 1 & 2 and the novellas and I’m sure book 4 will be amazing, but book 3 is boring.

Revisado: 11-18-23
The first 5 hours are a waste of time wherein literally NOTHING happens. The last hour was decent and the ending was good, but I want my 5 hours (and my credit) back!

Historia
We are living through the most prosperous age in all of human history, yet we are listless, divided, and miserable. Wealth and comfort are unparalleled, but our political landscape is unmoored, and rates of suicide, loneliness, and chronic illness continue to skyrocket. How do we explain the gap between these truths? And how should we respond? For evolutionary biologists Heather Heying and Bret Weinstein, the cause of our troubles is clear: The accelerating rate of change in the modern world has outstripped the capacity of our brains and bodies to adapt.

Historia
Everyone around Iris Kelly is in love. Her best friends are all coupled up, her siblings have partners that are perfect for them, and her parents are still blissfully married. And she’s happy for all of them, truly. Iris doesn’t want any of that—dating, love, romance. She’ll stick to her commitment-free hookups, thanks very much, except no one in her life will just let her be. Everyone wants to see her settled down, but she holds firmly to her no dating rule. There’s only one problem—Iris is a romance author facing an imminent deadline for her second book, and she’s completely out of ideas.

Only book in trilogy worth reading
Revisado: 11-18-23
I only listened to this trilogy because I adore the narrator. The first two books were mediocre at best. This one was 2 hours too long, but the author finally learned to write a good story!!!

Historia
Centuries after the infamous witch hunts that swept through Europe and America, witches continue to hold a unique fascination for many: as fairy tale villains, practitioners of pagan religion, as well as feminist icons. Witches are both the ultimate victim and the stubborn, elusive rebel. But who were the women who were accused and often killed for witchcraft? What types of women have centuries of terror censored, eliminated, and repressed? Celebrated feminist writer Mona Chollet explores three types of women who were accused of witchcraft and persecuted.

We are witnessing a new surge of interpersonal and institutional violence against women, including new witch hunts. This surge of violence has occurred alongside an expansion of capitalist social relations. In this new work that revisits some of the main themes of Caliban and the Witch, Silvia Federici examines the root causes of these developments and outlines the consequences for the women affected and their communities.
