DNF
Revisado: 05-26-24
I’ve liked everything I’ve read by this author, so I was looking forward to this one. But I just couldn’t get into it or enjoy it enough to power all the way through and finish. I found the main female character to be totally annoying- not sure if it’s the way she’s written or the narration or both. I think she was intended to be this bubbly, sun-shiney, cute personality, but she came across as childish and unprofessional to me, and I just couldn’t learn to like her. And she was supposed to be a smart woman, but she was just so dense! The guy would literally tell her he can’t stop thinking about her, and her thoughts are constantly “hmm, I wonder if he likes me?” Over and over again! And the main male character narrator does NOT work for the voice of a young 30-ish football player. He sounded more like a 50-ish yr old professor. I wish that when you sample a book you could get a sample of more than just one of the narrators. The “fake marriage” trope is one I’m just really tired of, and it wasn’t written well enough for me to stick it out. I DNF this one. But I couldn’t return it so it’s still in my library— maybe someday, if I’m desperate for something to listen to, I’ll try to finish it and see if the last couple of hours redeem it at all.

Historia
For 12-year-old Cora Landry and her friends Violet and Jordyn, it was supposed to be an ordinary sleepover - movies and Ouija and talking about boys. But when they decide to sneak out to go to the abandoned rail yard on the outskirts of town, little do they know that their innocent games will have dangerous consequences. Later that night, Cora Landry is discovered on the tracks, bloody and clinging to life, her friends nowhere to be found. Soon, their small rural town is thrust into a maelstrom. Who would want to hurt a young girl like Cora - and why?

Brittany Presley is a fantastic narrator. The story was underwhelming to me. I was hoping for more of a twist .

After years of scraping by, Nolan and I just landed the big break of a lifetime for our scrappy online restaurant review show. We’re going to New York for a month. Just the two of us. Together all the time. But I’ve already lost my best friend once, so I’ll do whatever it takes to resist thoroughly delicious Nolan again. Until I learn whatever it takes might cost me everything.

Not great..
Revisado: 10-07-23
I love both of these narrators, and I thought they were both great… but unfortunately I just did not like this story. I could not get into it at all. I gave up with about 30 mins left to listen bc I just didn’t care how it ended.

Historia
I spent the night with a hot, grumpy stranger in an airport hotel. No, not like that. Get your mind out of the gutter. It was just sleeping...and maybe a little cuddling. Long story short, I embarrassed the heck out of myself, but at least I never have to see him again. Except the universe is clearly out to get me, because I arrive at my new job on Monday morning, and who’s the first person I see? Hot stranger himself: Liam Donovan. AKA, my new boss. AKA, Annie, you are so freaking screwed.

Likeable..
Revisado: 01-07-23
The story was sweet and enjoyable. I wouldn’t mind if it was a little less “chaste,” but that’s ok, I knew. I was signing up for a closed door romance. I liked the female narrator. The male narrator was the main problem for me. He was just way too sing-song-y, and for me his voice did not at all match the visual the author created of Liam. In a few of the softer, quieter moments he was ok, but I actually ended up preferring the female narrator voice the male character over the actual
male narrator. I would try another book by this author, but not with this same male narrator.

Historia
Never Have I Ever been so infuriated by a man I wanted to kiss. They say opposites attract, but I beg to differ. Combust is more like it. Because every single time I talk to Zach Nolan, I see red. The too-good-looking, too-smart, too-effortlessly-charming single dad who works down the hall from me has turned getting under my skin into a sport. Call it the battle of wits between the wedding planner and the divorce attorney. Trouble is, when we’re forced into closer quarters, planning an engagement party for our best friends, I start to see his other sides....

Liked, not loved.
Revisado: 12-15-22
Overall I did like this one a lot. Mostly I love Jason Clarke as a narrator, and there IS a sweet love story. The female narrator was likeable enough for the female part, but I didn’t care for her “male” voice. There was almost no change in her tone for different characters and it bugged me. Also, I don’t at all mind some steamy stuff, but sometimes those scenes just go a little too over the top and cringey for me, and find myself just skipping forward.

Loved this one! Beautiful love story… a little steamy but not raunchy… great narrators. Julia Whelan is always a go-to, but this was the first time I’ve heard Shane East and good Lord, his voice and accent did some things to me! 😄

Historia
Every person has that one thing they’re known for, and it doesn’t matter what you do, that one thing—whether good or bad—follows you around like a bloodhound for the rest of your life. Tragically for me, it’s a story I wrote when I was 15, based on a real person, Reece Cavanaugh. And guess what? He grew up to be a pirate—okay, lawyer. Same thing. To make matters worse, the man is representing my ex-fiancé. But the more I get to know Reece—the real version, not the imaginary one who ravishes me—I can’t help but wish we could roll around in the sand together.

Ughh
Revisado: 11-21-22
I feel so duped by all the “swooning” reviews for this that said it was swoony and swoonworthy and amazing. I found it to be so overly cheesy and ridiculous. Her life’s “trauma” was this pirate story she wrote years ago?? If I heard the phrase “pirate girl” one more time I was going to lose it. I don’t even mind that there was zero steam level- that’s fine with me. But omg I just found all of the dialogue and the story line to be so utterly silly. The narrator was annoying to me also. It’s not that she was bad, but just really overanimated, high pitched, and obnoxious. And while other reviews said the narrator would make you fall in love with Reece, I found her voice for Reece to be really unlikeable. Maybe I am a cynic but the only “feels” this one
gave me were not good ones.

Steven Weber is amazing
Revisado: 09-30-20
Coben books usually end up being underwhelming to me, but I keep trying. This one just did not hold my interest and the storyline was a bust. The one saving grace for this one is Steven Weber's narration. He is the only reason I finished it. I would listen to him read every book ever written, even the awful ones. He is just that good. So, for the narration alone I give nothing but praise. Other than that, it's just not that great.

Revisado: 03-24-20
I usually like Jennifer Probst's books, but this one was a miss for me. While the storyline had promise and there was a sweet love story in there, mostly I was bored and found the sex scenes to be a bit excessive. I did think the narrators were great.
