I really wanted a survivalist litrpg book and this is what was suggested so I jumped in excited. Overall I do enjoy the story here, There is some survivalist aspect of it but as time went on there was less and less of it. The book spend way too much time in self reflection and spiritualism and it slows down the book significantly. The actual story progresses very slowly and the later half of the book I found myself skidding, Especially with his (spoiler ahead) Lichen buddy. The spiritual aspects are also repetitive, gets brought up randomly, and are pretty boring.

The MC cant make up his mind if he is an adult or a child and the book cant also make up its mind on what his stats actually are because they use the stats of his past life but then still limit his straight to that of an 8 year old when it is convenient to do so, Making the stats system pretty useless and can probably remove then entirely and not effect the book. He also acts like an adult when it matters but makes childish decisions just to push the plot.

Last but not least is the narrator, easy to understand and hear so that is good however he is very soft spoken, Which was probably a contributing factor to how slow the spirituality parts felt. Also he makes it sound like the MC is on the verge of crying the entire time. Which if that was intended makes no sense because the MC is not the type to cry. I feel like the narrator would be good in another series.

Overall I thought it was a great litrpg taking multiple elements from the genre and mixing them without being cringe in the process. The story is well written, The flow is nice, They do not overdo stats, and last but not least the narration is solid with easily discernible characters.

I was so excited when I saw the long length of the audiobook then so mad that there wasn’t more. Addictive as all hell and I am salivating for the next book.

I was obsessed with Ready Player One so when I heard of the sequel I was ecstatic. I downloaded it to listen to the second it was available and I regret it. It feels lazy as hell and none of the characters act like themselves. To add to it someone seems to have blended up SJW literature and shoved it down Ernest Clines throat. Maybe the movie exposing him to Hollywood corrupted him.

For starters the story feels like a fetch quest, just go from place to place with no substance to it. The characters lost depth. Hell the bad guy has more depth then the main characters.

Parzival got turned into an ignorant simp. Hell someone who could tell you how many better are on the back of a game cartridge from 50 years ago and they act like he would not know Tolkien and misses references left and right and has to be save by the other characters who are now just tokens.

Aech went from a strong badass character who had an in depth and emotional story behind her character and is now just the token black check mark and token LGBT check mark. Completely different from the previous book. Heaven forbid you can have a seen where she isn’t bitching about to many white people or how oppressed women in history are.

Shoto is pretty much not used at all, Ot os like he is in the book just because he was in the last.

Also they had to add in a new Character in the book who was not needed for the story at all, to whom they did not give shot for characters development except they check the transgender and non binary check boxs.

This book is essentially men are bad woman are great and we have a couple old school references. That is it. Even the “Twist” at the end was dull and predictable.

(Spoiler Alert) First and foremost this books story is fantastic that being said it sacrifices a lot of story for the sake of what I can only call light weight literotica. I was actually dreading whenever a certain character would show up because I know it would immediately veer from story to fantasies of making out and such. Which normally I do not mind but again it interrupted the story as opposed to adding to it.

Second is that you need to have us care about someone if you want us to feel anything when they die. Main character is sad over the death of “insert person you haven’t heard about” How can you relate to that.

Last complaint on the story itself is that it did not feel like a Shadowrun story. It felt like a normal story but with some Shadowrun lingo thrown in now and then. You could remove all aspect of Shadowrun and it would not change the story.

Now for the narration. Overall good quality, good accents, easy to understand. My complaint for the narrator though is that when she does a male or someone with an accent it looses all flow. It sounds like they are either out of breath or in a constant state of reluctance and confusion. I understand what she is trying to do. At least I think she is. But It does not work for me. You have a supposed expert, confident, wealthy shadowrun specialist and he talks like “I.....uh.....like....ze.....uh...... popcorn”

I was ecstatic when I saw that Shadowrun finally had some audiobooks. I was even more ecstatic at the quality of the narration. Great across the board for me and I gleefully wait to throw money at more Shadowrun novels in audio form.
