Great sequel

I'm really liking the direction this series is going. It has interesting references back to the original series, but the younger generation stands on their own. Looking forward to the next installment!

Serious lack of world building

The lack of world building at the beginning made the book hard to follow and understand in places. Concepts were great, and I like the characters. But I'm not eager for the next installment. I might read it, or might not.

Great story but be warned

This installment in the series has notably more historical violence described than previous books. There were a couple of places where I had to hit the fast forward. Not gratuitous, and way less than was in real life, but just be aware. If you're sensitive just skip the battle scenes.

Too clever by half

While true to the style of Dr. Watson's stories, it was just too, too much. Great idea, but too detailed, too long, and way too much reliance on the "Sherlock Holmes but make it alien" concept. I ended up listening at 1.25 speed in order to finish. It was fine but I wouldn't pick up a sequel.

I really enjoyed this! Ray Porter shines (as always) and the story keeps a great pace. Some good social commentary mixed in with the fun. I'm really looking forward to future adventures with these characters. In fact, I may have a new favorite character of all time!

Cliche and utterly predictable

In spite of Ray Porter's always amazing narration, this is definitely not worth a listen. I'd guess the author was going for some sort of updated noir drama, but all I got out of it was one tired cliche after another. I did manage to finish, but barely - and only because I'd listen to Ray Porter read a statistics textbook.

Great story and fabulous narration

Finished in two days - I didn't want to put it down. I really loved Ray Porter's narration. I've seen him perform on stage multiple times but have never heard him narrate before. I'll be searching out other books by both author and narrator!
