Historia
Eleven years have passed sub Lieutenant John Dunbar became Dances With Wolves and married Stands With A Fist, a white-born woman raised as a Comanche from early childhood. With their three children, they live peacefully in the village of Ten Bears. But there is unease in the air, caused by increased reports of violent confrontations with white soldiers, who want to drive the Comanches onto reservations. Disquiet turns to horror, and then to rage, when a band of white rangers descends on Ten Bear's village, slaughtering half its inhabitants and abducting Stands With A Fist and her baby.

Poignant masterpiece!
Revisado: 02-02-23
This is one of those books that you feel sad to finish...it was one of the best stories and performances I've heard in a long time. The author had a phenomenal way with the English language and it never sounded stilted or unrealistic. George Guidall is my favorite narrator ever and handles humor and tragedy equally beautifully. I can't recommend this book enough, especially if you've already listened to Dances With Wolves. A highly gratifying experience.

Historia
Harrison Foster, a crisis manager for a London firm, is summoned to Newmarket after a fire in the Chadwick stables kills six very valuable horses, including the short-priced favorite for the Derby. There is far more to the "simple" fire than initially meets the eye...for a start, human remains are found among the equestrian ones in the burnt-out shell. All the stable staff are accounted for, so who is the mystery victim?

Not as suspenseful as I like
Revisado: 10-08-22
Martin Jarvis did his usual outstanding performance, but the story was rather bland in my opinion. Even the moment of danger fell flat. Also, I wish that characters would enjoy getting to know one another and gradually falling in love rather than jumping into bed immediately. Honestly the girl he gets together with throws up red flags right away (getting drunk, throwing a fit when he can't tell her confidential things, wanting sex immediately) and the only thing they had going was a rabid sexual appetite. I don't know if I'll listen to anymore of Felix's novels. They are getting a bit too formulaic.

From the number one best-selling author of The Cause of Death comes an audiobook about the unlikely, extraordinary, obscure and often tragic ways humans meet their demise. A dead body without a trace of trauma; alien parasites; worms of the brain; crocodile attacks and bizarre eating disorders....In The Quick and the Dead, pathologist and self-confessed death-aficionado Dr. Cynric Temple-Camp takes listeners into a world of disease and death as he seeks answers for those who were unlucky, and those still alive to tell the tale.

The dead talk - to the right listener. They can tell us all about themselves: where they came from, how they lived, how they died, and, of course, who killed them. Forensic scientists can unlock the mysteries of the past and help serve justice using the messages left by a corpse, a crime scene, or the faintest of human traces.

Why did the flushing toilet take two centuries to catch on? Why did medieval people sleep sitting up? When were the two "dirty centuries?" Why did gas lighting cause Victorian ladies to faint? Why, for centuries, did rich people fear fruit? In her brilliantly and creatively researched book, Lucy Worsley takes us through the bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchen.

While no one can deny that the narrator is incredibly talented, the intensity of the accents, often times coming seemingly out of nowhere, were distracting, sometimes annoying.

Historia
Deep in the African rain forest, near the legendary ruins of the Lost City of Zinj, an expedition of eight American geologists are mysteriously and brutally killed in a matter of minutes. Ten thousand miles away, Karen Ross, the Congo Project Supervisor, watches a gruesome video transmission of the aftermath: a camp destroyed, tents crushed and torn, equipment scattered in the mud alongside dead bodies - all motionless except for one moving image - a grainy, dark, man-shaped blur.

Crichton's books are so much more in depth, creative, and educational than the movie adaptations. This is an exciting narrative you just don't want to end! I'm sure I'll listen to it again.

Historia
In 1518, in a small town in Alsace, Frau Troffea began dancing and didn't stop. She danced until she was carried away six days later, and soon 34 more villagers joined her. Then more. In a month more than 400 people had been stricken by the mysterious dancing plague. In late-19th-century England an eccentric gentleman founded the No Nose Club in his gracious townhome - a social club for those who had lost their noses, and other body parts, to the plague of syphilis for which there was then no cure.

Interesting listen
Revisado: 10-12-17
For the most part I enjoyed this book. It's obvious a lot of research went into it. It seemed to me however that instead of a book presenting the facts, it's very much the writer's opinion of the facts. For instance, while I also disagree with anti-vaccinators, the author railed against them several times, pretty much calling them stupid morons. The book also seemed to lack consistency, some chapters going into depth about the disease under discussion, while others, such as the one on leprosy, just waxed enthusiastic on how awesome a guy Damien was. Additionally, while I enjoy humor and snark in a science book, the author seemed to be trying too hard to be funny. Some of the hypothetical conversations were overboard.
I think some judicious editing would have made the book smoother and more respectful of others' opinions and beliefs, even if the author herself doesn't agree with them.
The narrator did a passable job, but the tone of voice she used when quoting men was a bit grating.

Historia
Architect and family man Lee Morris never gave much thought to the shares he inherited of the Stratton Park racecourse, the multi-million dollar property owned by the powerful Stratton family. His mother had first received the shares to keep her quiet about the abuse she had suffered at the hands of her first husband, Keith Stratton. Now, much to Lee's chagrin, he is being drawn into the thick of the Stratton family squabbles as they wage a furious debate over the future of the race track.

Interesting plot but not as gripping as usual
Revisado: 02-24-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Decider to be better than the print version?
Yes, the audio version gave real life to the various characters.
Would you be willing to try another book from Dick Francis? Why or why not?
Yes, classic Dick Francis can't be beat!
Which scene was your favorite?
The book's climax was good.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
You could; I broke it up because of circumstances.
Any additional comments?
Simon Prebble did a great job! The plot was tamer than usual but made up for it with the tender relationships the protagonist has with his children.

Very flat and broken narration made a decent story rough to listen to. I enjoy Bill Crider's stories but am used to the animated narration of George Guidell. I will probably listen to the rest of this series but hope the narration improves.
