Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She’s seen it all: men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot. Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet. Then the brutal murder of a young woman—the latest in a string of deaths across the coast—confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.

Gripping character build up
Revisado: 10-09-24
Wow - I have whiplash with the twist, the suprise and then the unexpected finale. Whoosh! I have now listened to the entire Maid series and then this fabulous story all one after the other. I start getting a bit of fatigue with some aspects being a bit drawn out, but guess that’s how the tension is built up as the story unfolds. Order immediately.

Revisado: 09-27-23
I enjoyed the evocative characterization and the story in general - also the insights into the era and into the craziness of Hollywood and the carnivorous nature of the movie industry and glamour to keep your star shining brightly - but didn’t feel swept away and thoroughly entertained or richer philosophically, so maybe a 3/5.

Lainey has just lost everything. Luckily one little fib (OK, quite a big fib) helps nail her dream job. Soon she's living in a stunning house by the sea, fending off obsessed fans for a retired - if far-from-retiring - actor and organising his charming but chaotic family. Yes, everyone thinks she's part of a couple, and it's tricky keeping this secret. But at least she's not looking for love: with her disastrous relationship history, men are definitely off the agenda.

I loved The Aftermath - the story and the exceptional performances. Gail develops her characters so beautifully I felt like I knew them intimately and found myself comparing them or aspects of them to people I knew.
There are surprises that ultimately make perfect sense and the unfolding of events take place like elegant dominoes colliding into one another for a perfect, imperfect ending. Highly recommended - I plan to now listen to all Gail Schimmels books! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Historia
Laura has spent most of her life being judged. She's seen as hot-tempered, troubled, a loner. Some even call her dangerous. Miriam knows that just because Laura is witnessed leaving the scene of a horrific murder with blood on her clothes, that doesn't mean she's a killer. Bitter experience has taught her how easy it is to get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Carla is reeling from the brutal murder of her nephew. She trusts no one: good people are capable of terrible deeds. But how far will she go to find peace?

What a brilliant audio book! Wow - Rosamund Pike is phenomenal - she inhabited each character and I instantly knew who was talking. I lurched between deciding which character was guilty. Riveting story, exquisitely narrated. 7-stars!
