Historia
Alejandra no longer knows who she is. To her husband, she is a wife, and to her children, a mother. To her own adoptive mother, she is a daughter. But they cannot see who Alejandra has become: a woman struggling with a darkness that threatens to consume her. Nor can they see what Alejandra sees. In times of despair, a ghostly vision appears to her, the apparition of a crying woman in a ragged white gown.

Spoooky
Revisado: 04-17-25
I grew up hearing stories about La Llorona, so this book immediately grabbed my attention. At first, I couldn’t stand the main character Alejandra, she was so miserable and just… exhausting. But once she started getting help and things started unraveling(shit hit the fan), the story really picked up and got way more interesting.
I really liked the journey of self discovery she went through, and how that growth passed down to her kids. Speaking of her kids, I loved their names. It’s something personal for me too if and when I have kids, I definitely want to give them strong, traditional Mexican names but not like Agripino(Franco Escamilla joke iykyk🤣)
The flashbacks were one of my favorite parts they added depth to the story. But I was honestly thrown off when the author brought in a real historical figure and made him a romantic interest. That felt a bit forced and unnecessary to me. Like… why him? Why not just create a fictional character that’s connected to him somehow? That would’ve kept the focus more on the main character and her story.
All in all, once shit started hitting the fan, I was hooked. The writing was solid, and I loved how Mexican folklore was woven into the plot. The way the demon tied into the La Llorona legend was clever and super sneaky. It was well done. Definitely a recommended read.

This was a pretty interesting story….but I don’t know the last few chapters just seemed too rushed for me. I honestly wish the ending would have gone into more detail rather than to just be summarized in the end.

Historia
In this deeply scary and intensely unnerving debut novel, Jake and a woman known only as "The Girlfriend" are on a drive to visit his parents at their secluded farm. But when Jake leaves "The Girlfriend" stranded at an abandoned high school, what follows is a twisted unraveling of the darkest unease, an exploration into psychological frailty, and an ending as suspenseful as The Usual Suspects and as haunting as Misery.

The story makes me feel soo sad…
Revisado: 07-28-21
I feel like this is something a lot of us go through sometimes..thinking WHAT IF. And we wonder what if we did this and maybe this and that. I’m assuming Jake committed suicide or died while at work….hence the title?
It’s a great story tbh it really had me Zzzz up until they got to the high school but yes it truly is a sad and lonely story for Jake.

A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

I really enjoyed this book. I didn’t think I would because as I was getting through the book I knew what was going to happen but the drama! Loved it! I really wish it had a better ending but all of these stories just always have a tragic end somehow.

I liked and disliked this book. Personally I feel some parts were ugh and some were good. I really liked the ending where Anna and B talk out their feelings and decide to move forward it was very pleasing. I didn’t like however who ended up being the hit man/shooter at the party, and how it was just glazed over like nothing. I believe it should have been more emotional not just like let me go change dress….but that’s just me.
Side note I listened to the book while at work…Wish each chapter was individually uploaded rather than just one chunk for each part. This was very hard in the beginning because I liked how we have a character list and having to go back and forth was a pain.

This was a crazy good plot. I loved Heather..her character...I think she needed therapy cause that is one crazy obsession... I’m truly shocked with Sky’s decision in the end..I mean c’mon this dude still plotted against you..truly truly a great read or listen whichever...but the listen is great. All the narrators did really good...especially Heather.

It was a pretty slow start but once I started to get go in deeper in the story omg it was pretty interesting. Worth it! I also like that the author did not sugar coat sex. I also loved the female lead. All narrators did an amazing job too.
